There is a boutique in the Fairfield area that provides a wide variety of products in a friendly and welcoming setting. “Miller St. Boutique is a local one-stop shop for many of our customers’ shopping needs. We offer everything from clothing, jewelry and handbags to home décor, gift and baby items and bath and body products,” Stephanie Gonya, Co-owner of Miller St. Boutique, says. “We have several local small business vendors represented in our boutique. We also started an online shop in July of this year.”
Miller St. Boutique, which has been open since August 30, 2018, is located at: 702 Miles Road in Fairfield, Ohio. This business is able to run with the help of a team full of people. Gonya and Tara Smithson, Co-owner of Miller St. Boutique, are the only full-time employees at thr boutique. “We employ eight part-time ladies. My husband, Chris Gonya, also plays a large role in the business as he does all of our technical and accounting work,” Gonya says.
The inspiration behind starting the boutique came from the friendship between Smithson and Gonya. “Tara and I went to Cincinnati Christian High School together. We became close friends in high school and stayed close friends over the years. Roughly five years ago, we decided to start a small business together because we both have lots of antiques and vintage items. We opened up two booths at the Ohio Valley Antique Mall. Our adventure really began as a hobby,” Gonya says. “We maintained our booths for over three years and then decided to take it to the next level and open our own boutique. My husband was instrumental in convincing me that opening my own store was a possibility. I approached Tara with the idea and she hopped right on board. It was quite a whirlwind because we didn’t put a lot of time into planning this adventure out. We justjumped right in with both feet and so far it has been a wonderful experience.”
The name came from Gonya’s and Smithson’s maiden names. “Both of our maiden names are Miller, however, we are not related. The ‘St.’ stands for Stephanie and Tara,” Gonya says.
There is a wide variety of items sold at Miller St. Boutique and they include: clothing, jewelry, handbags, florals, candles, vases, kitchen items, clocks, mirrors, baby items and a small men’s section. “We offer bath and body and skincare from a local vendor. LahVdah (they have their own brick and mortar store in Hamilton. We try to incorporate local vendors in our shop as much as we are able,” she says. “Besides LahVdah, we offer jewelry from Willow and Birch, tea from Antiquity Teas and signs from MadiandGrace to name a few.”
For the holiday season, the boutique has a variety of items they recommend as gifts. “We offer a wide range of wine accessories from wine bags to wine cups. We also have a lot of jewelry options,” she says. “What lady doesn’t love jewelry? We have necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings in different sizes and styles. We offer hair accessories and cute baseball caps. We have gift items and stocking stuffers for anyone on your list. Christmas ornaments, holiday socks, hats, scarves and gloves to name a few.”
Miller St. Boutique defines success by the communitywelcoming Gonya and Smithson, even though they didn’t have retail experience. “There was an existing gift shop in Fairfield that had been in business for 30 years. The ladies were in their 70’s and decided to retire. It was when they decided to close that my husband came up with the idea for us to open a shop of our own. The people in the community were so happy to have another store come in,” Gonya says. “We feel that our first year was a huge success but has more to do with the support of our amazing customers than anything else. We have not only been blessed with faithful and amazing customers, but also with the women who work for us, we have a wonderful team.”
The vision of Miller St. Boutique is always growing and evolving. “We launched the online store, Millerstboutique.com, i
