All thanks to a golden doodle named Lily, Tri-State pet owners can treat their pets to stylish clothes, collars, and even homemade foods.
“We started because we bought a dog, a golden doodle named Lily and when we were looking at treats and food products we were not happy with what we were seeing because everything was sourced out of continent,” says Kim Lautman, owner of Pet Passions and Fashions. “There were a lot of recalls, so I started making my own dog treats. That turned in to giving them to friends and doing different markets.”
The fashion part of the business started when Lautman realized how overpriced pet clothing is. “I went to go buy a bandana and it was $7 and it was made out of cheap material,” she recalls. “I thought, ‘We’re just going to make our own bandana.’ We then decided to become a retail store so now we buy from different vendors.”
Today, Pet Passion and Fashions is an online retail store that carries homemade treats and foods for cats and dogs as well as dog clothing and collars. The business is growing tremendously, Lautman says, as pets continue to be an increasingly important part of pet owners’ lives.
“More and more people take their dogs wherever they are going so see you see more dogs with clothes, sunglasses and goggles and shows because they’re out in that element,” adds Lautman. “When they hang their head out of the window they have to have protection.”
After two years in business, Pet Passions and Fashions continues to transcend with new trends. Lautman says hoodie fleeces are highest in demand for the impending colder weather. “Pet owners appreciate the US products that are sold at Pet Passion and Fashions,” Lautman adds.
Another trend the business is adapting to is the movement toward natural foods. “I think a trend is buying all natural nutrition and products that made and sourced from the US,” explains Lautman.
Your pet can taste test the all-natural treats and see the fashions Pet Passions and Fashions has to offer by attending the Posh Pup Fashion Show Sept. 21.
“Were going to do a lot of the latest in the fall fashions and were also going to have Halloween costumes,” says Lautman. “The dogs are going to range from Chihuahua to gold maxis mix. The clothes will range in all sizes.”
The Posh Pup Fashion Show will be held at Performance Lexus in Mason from 6-9pm and will feature a fashion show and tons of pup-friendly activities including taste tests, nail trims, and pictures with your pets. For the pet owners in attendance, there will be shopping, drinks, fare and fun!
