What started as a project for an MBA class led to a brand and business that’s dedicated to sharing the stories of those who wear its suits. Keep reading for more.
Combining old with the new, Pursuit aims to make everyone feel welcome while offering suits and professional attire at prices that are attainable.
According to Over-the-Rhine Store Manager Anne Jackson, Pursuit started out as a class project when Founder Nate DeMars was in the MBA program at Ohio State in 2011.
“He felt there weren’t options that really catered to a younger customer who needed suits for major life events – stores were either huge and overwhelming with little service or they were pretentious and made suit novices feel uncomfortable,” says Jackson. “In an age where so much was and is moving online, we wanted to build a store with people you could trust to help you through a major purchase.”
Pursuit originated in Columbus with a home office there a well as a storefront in the Short North Arts District, and a recently opened storefront in Over-the-Rhine.
Pursuit uses a combination of modern style, a simplified shopping experience with great service, prices that are affordable, and a company and brand that stands for something.
The main focus of the company is not only suits but also on the places those suits will go and the stores of the diverse group of people who wear them.
“While most brands talk about limited time sales and the specs of their products, we try to focus on people and stories,” says Jackson.
According to Jackson, integrating the store and its brand into Over-the-Rhine and Cincinnati is a top priority. “We’ve been fortunate in surrounding ourselves with amazing partners in Columbus over the years and we want to be as much of a local business in Cincinnati,” she says. “We’re also building upon our current partnerships with groups like Columbus Crew SC and Team Shuster (US Gold Medal Winning Curling Team). In 2019 we’re looking to partner with nonprofits and social enterprises throughout Ohio in our ‘In Pursuit’ Suit Scholarship Program and we’d love to expand our ‘In Pursuit’ concert series to include our OTR shop, too.”
You can visit Pursuit at 1433 Vine Street in Over-the-Rhine and at 937 N. High Street in Columbus’ Short North.
