Media Maven: "Paul Blart: Mall Cop" Movie Review Will the King of Queens rule the silver screen as a mall cop? Our media maven explains what you can expect from this Kevin James movie.
"Paul Blart: Mall Cop" Kevin James, Jayma Mays, Keir O'Donnell, Bobby Cannavale, Stephen Rannazzisi, Shirley Knight
"Paul Blart: Mall Cop" is a surprisingly entertaining movie. Without using sophomoric humor, flatulence jokes or women as objectifying, gratuitous eye candy, this movie manages to tell a story about a simple "every man."
The film opens with the audience getting to know Paul Blart (Kevin James). He is a single parent, and he and his daughter live with his mother. These two people love Paul. They love him so much so that they encourage him to begin online dating.
Paul, on the other hand, would love to meet someone but in a less intimidating way than online. In fact he even has a "crush" on a sales clerk from a kiosk where he works at a local mall as a security guard. He takes his job just as seriously as his desire to woo the object of his affection, Amy (Jayma Mays) who is the all-American sweetheart who has Paul's stolen heart.
Being smitten is not a crime, but credit card identity theft is. When the shopping mall is overtaken by a gang of organized crooks, Paul shines as our unassuming hero. Add the comedic timing and good looks of Bobby Cannavale and the suave, sleek finesse of the crooks' leader (Keir O' Donnell) and you'll have a comedy that's even better than going shopping at the mall.
