For this week's "Boutique" issue, we chat with the owner of Cincinnati's newest shop for women's fashion: Curate Boutique in Hyde Park. Learn more about her new shop, upcoming events and the new summer styles she's curating for closets across the Queen City.

Cincinnati's newest women's fashion boutique - Curate in Hyde Park - specializes in the curation of your closet. To curate means to select, organize, and display items in a collection or exhibition. Taking a cue from this concept, Curate Boutique officially opened on April 6 and has been curating fabulous fashions - organized in themed collections - for clients ever since.

Owner Courtney PeGan says she's getting ready to launch a new collection she's calling "The New Bohemian." This summer and fall, the Boho Chic trend will be popping back up on our radar, but PeGan says you can expect to see a lot more emphasis on the "chic" part of the trend.

"In the past, Boho style was synonymous with gauzy tops and skirts plus loads of accessories," she explains. "The New Bohemian features the flow, easy tops and maxis with fun, bold prints that you'd normally expect - but in a more streamlined way."

Look for dresses featuring more tailored elements for a slender silhouette, or pairing a flowy, sheer top with a more structured pant, PeGan says. "I'm so excited about this trend because it's all about mixing traditional elements with beautiful, easy pieces for warm weather," she adds. "You can easily work these new Boho-inspired pieces in with what's already in your closet and still be super on-trend."

PeGan is also working on other collections called "90s Revival" and "Everyday Glamour" that are based on emerging key fashion trends. "The 90s have been making a slow comeback for the past couple years," PeGan says. "I think the style is going to reach a tipping point this year. You can expect to see anything from coffeehouse grunge to the preppy styles in Clueless."

The Everyday Glamour collection is being developed thanks to a recent trend of taking hints of glitz - usually reserved for evening attire, such as sequins - and incorporating them into daywear. "I plan to take this trend on with a future collection featuring glamorous pieces that are easy to incorporate into your everyday looks," she explains.

Curating these collections is PeGan's favorite part about owning the boutique and it allows her to tap into both her inner math nerd and her artistic side. "I spent years believes that I wasn't very creative because I was gifted in math and science but awful in art class," she adds. "It wasn't until a few years ago that I realized that being creative and artistic doesn't require a sketch pad or paint brushes - I discovered that fashion is my creative expression."

To help develop her collections, PeGan enjoys reading fashion magazines and blogs from around the world. She likes to discover new music and food trends and indulge herself in all things pop culture so her brain is constantly making connections using different sources to identify patterns and themes.

"I love being able to tangibly bring to life these themes and trends that I am seeing via my style collections," she adds. Her vision for the store is to create a place that's fun to play, shop and discover new designers and styles, but she also wanted it to feel accessible and friendly so more women in the Tri-State can feel beautiful, unique and confident. "I get pictures of women wearing their Curate Boutique outfits around town telling me how many compliments they got," PeGan says. "It makes me feel like I am truly on the right path to achieving my goal."

Besides creating new style collections for the upcoming seasons, PeGan is currently working on developing Curate Boutique's e-commerce site. She wants the store to be available for customers whenever and wherever they want, so having an online store is a big priority for her. She hopes to have things up and running by August.

If you're interested in checking out this and other Hyde Park-based boutiques, you're in luck. On Thursday, June 13, the Hyde Park Merchants are hosting a "Shop, Sip 'n' Stroll" from 5-8pm. PeGan says it's the marriage of her two favorite things - shopping and wine tasting. Most of the merchants participating in the stroll will serve wine as shoppers visit the various boutiques and shops of Hyde Park Square.

PeGan says during the event, she'll be serving champagne and wine tasting inspired mini-cupcakes from Twisted Sugar Cupcakes including champagne cupcakes with spiked fruit filling topped with fruity buttercream and dark chocolate pinot noir cupcakes with chocolate mousse filling topped with honey goat cheese frosting.

"So stop by for some bubbly, intoxicatingly yummy mini-cupcakes, and a sneak peek at The New Bohemian collection," PeGan adds.
