Learn about an innovative evening that gives you the chance to mix, mingle, shop an exclusive discounted designer boutique, see DAAP talent rock the runway and support an important cause.
Every year, St. Vincent de Paul and the University of Cincinnati’s Design, Architecture, Art and Planning (DAAP) partner to present RetroFittings, a fashion show that features the fashion designs of DAAP students.
15 years ago, RetroFittings was created to help raise money and awareness for St. Vincent de Paul and the people they serve.
Attendees can expect hors d’oeuvres and drinks, a raffle and both silent and live auctions, and a curated boutique that features designer names at unbelievably low prices, according to Larry Shields, Director of Community Relations at St. Vincent de Paul- Cincinnati, who is passionate about making this year’s RetroFittings event bigger and better than ever.
“The best part is the entire evening of fun supports St. Vincent de Paul – Cincinnati and our emergency assistance programs which help struggling families with life’s basics like rent and utility assistance, prescription medicine, food, clothing, furniture and even beds,” says Shields.
RetroFittings will be hosted at the Duke Energy Convention Center on Saturday, October 14 and doors will open at 6:30 p.m.
For the fashion show, students from DAAP shop in any of the seven St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Stores with a budget of $15, turning the items they find into runway fashion.
The theme for this year’s show will be “Avant-Garde”, which Shields says will open up plenty of possibilities for fashion. “You’re going to see a lot of really crazy things. We’re also partnering with the Cincinnati Art Museum and everyone who attends will get a ticket to see their exhibit called ‘Iris van Herpen: Transforming Fashion,'” says Shields.
After the students find their pieces that will “RetroFit” into high fashion, models will wear their outfits down the runway with makeup and hair created by partners at the Paul Mitchell The School Cincinnati.
Shields says the best part about this event is that it isn’t a typical charity gala, it’s a party.
“Not only do you get to have a fun evening out on the town, you get to watch an entertaining show and have access to shop for the very best items from our thrift stores,” says Shields. “People who come love it and return year after year, it’s my challenge to help spread the word because if you attend, I’m confident you’ll come back.”
There will be a limited number of tickets available at the door on Saturday, October 14 starting at 6:30 located at the Duke Energy Convention Center in the Grand Ballroom on the 3rd floor. Buying onlinenon advance is suggested.
