Mul-ti-task-ing: noun. the art of being a mom.
No one understands being busy like a mom. It’s difficult enough to keep up with a beauty regime when it’s just you to worry about, but add a child into the equation and suddenly you hardly have time for the bare essentials. However, you know when you neglect yourself, you feel worse, and feeling poorly makes it even harder for you to keep up. When you look pulled together, you feel pulled together. It’s that simple.
When you feel like you just can’t keep juggling everything, make sure you take out just a few minutes to pamper yourself and get yourself ready to face the day. That way, even if you don’t think you can possibly keep everything together, you can at least look together!
No one, especially not a busy mom, wants to spend an hour every morning in front of the mirror blow-drying, straightening, curling and styling her hair. You can save a lot of time by finding a cut that works with your hair type and face shape that doesn’t require much styling. Consult with your hairstylist to find a cut that works for you and your hair.
Another way to save time is to skip washing your hair. With all the treatments for hair on the market to help us touch it up on the go, it has never been easier to skip a day. Plus, not washing your hair every day is good for your hair’s health, as it helps to maintain essential oils. The easiest thing to do is to grab some baby powder from the changing station, pour some on your fingers (over the sink of course) and work it in at the roots of your hair. The powder absorbs oil and leaves you smelling baby fresh! You can put a spin on this easy recipe by adding a few drops of lavender oil to freshen the scent of your hair.
However, if you want something engineered to make your hair clean without washing it, try using a dry shampoo. Just spray it in, brush and you’re done! Try Klorane extra gentle dry shampoo with oat extract or Sephora’s Naturia.
A quick hairstyle is also important, and by quick I don’t mean a ponytail! Of course, you can chic-up the old standby by parting your hair on the side and straightening the ends of your hair. You can even use it as a starting point for several quick hairstyles such as a chic, messy bun.
You can also use Velcro rollers between washing to perk up your hair. Just roll them in your hair, mist with water and cover with a cap before you shower. Afterward, take just a few minutes to blow dry the rollers before taking them out. Your hair will have tons of volume!
The eye is the window to the soul, and the key to making you look awake. When you’re running out the door and don’t have time to put your face on, make sure you take a minute to curl your lashes and add some mascara. That simple act alone will help make your eyes look bigger and make you look more alert and awake.
With summer finally seeming like it’s going to stay around, you can also get some multitasking makeup to go with your lifestyle. Instead of putting on a moisturizer, sunscreen and foundation, get a tinted moisturizer with an SPF. You’re still getting coverage and protection from the sun — all in one step!
After putting on your light base, just whisk on some blush to give you color and finish with a nude lip gloss and you’re good to go!
A resource worth checking out, if you can find the time, that is, CincyMoms.com, a local resource with information for everything from listings of mom support group to malls with play areas to a message board to share advice and talk with other moms.
Just remember, mom, you can’t take care of everyone else without first taking care of yourself! Make sure you are taking a few minutes each day to pamper yourself.
