Timely Treatments
You have better things to do than sit around with a foil afro under a blow dryer for an hour. Salon Beck, the brand spankin’ new downtown salon located right across from Starbucks on Fourth Street, has just the solution.
Not only do you get to nix the foils in most cases — sometimes they use them to separate the sections — you also get to shave 30 minutes off the time you’d typically spend on getting highlights, thanks to Salon Beck’s exclusive Paul Mitchell Block Color treatment process.
The results look very similar to a highlight treatment, says Sue Beck, the salon’s creative director. “The best description is ‘one process, three dimensional,'” she adds. So, essentially, the treatment process creates a dynamic multi-dimensional color effect so you get the look of highlights without wasting time on the foil ‘fro.
Beck says the stylist achieves the three dimensional look because of the placement of color, “for example, light hair laying over dark hair or warm hair laying over neutral tones,” Beck explains.
This Block Color treatment ranges in price from $45 to $85. Price difference depends on the level of stylist and how many colors are included. “Generally it is more cost-effective than highlights,” Beck adds.
The salon has been open unofficially for three weeks — the hairdryers started whirring on Aug. 13 — but you can stop by for its official ribbon-cutting opening ceremony Sept. 8. After the festivities, stick around to take advantage of the one-day-only celebratory specials of $10 off any service for new guests to the salon.
If you can’t make the opening, no worries! Salon Beck is open Tuesdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesdays 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. To schedule an appointment or to learn more about the salon, call Mary Jo Rose, Beck‚Äôs operations manager, at (513) 421-BECK (2325).
