Why look fabulous one day when you can look just as fabulous everyday? That’s what inspired Nancy Dawson, owner of Brideface, to launch FACEing, which offers consumer-friendly makeup lessons and classes, and now a new FACEing lipstick line.
It all started eight years ago when Dawson had a personal goal of booking at least two weddings a month. Today, she has a team of 10 artists, does 15 weddings on a typical peak Saturday, and recently expanded into the Virginia/DC area.
But Brideface is just scratching the surface of Dawson’s makeup empire. “I had so many people contact me after weddings – mainly mothers of the bride – saying they got so many compliments that they simply had to know how I made them look that fabulous,” she recalls.
So, that’s when she launched FACEing, which offers clients one-on-one lessons, paired lessons (two sisters, friends or a mother/daughter) or small group classes. “I go through everything you are currently using, or things you have purchased and don’t know how to use, and give you step-by-step instruction,” she explains.

From that, Dawson learned her clients’ all-time favorite shades and brands as well as their wants and needs that weren’t met by products currently available on the market. She began researching which shades and types of lip colors she would include in a lipstick line, and a month ago she launched the FACEing lipstick line complete with lipstick, cremegloss, matte lipstick and shimmagloss.
“I was also able to resurrect old favorites of mine that have been discontinued over the years,” she says. “So many times I’ve had my clients ask if they can purchase products that they can have right away and now I’m able to give them instant satisfaction in the form of lip color!”
Creating the lipstick line not only let Dawson make the colors she desired, but also gave her the opportunity to name them. She tapped into her love of TV and pop culture for inspiration. Some names include: nevernude and sushigirl. Also, she uses some pet names that she calls her girlfriends: sisterwife and hussy.
At the moment, all products in the line retail for $20. “We have a variety of textures in our lipsticks, from mattes to sheers, and we currently have 16 shades,” Dawson explains. “There are 12 glosses; four creamy ones that are super high pigment, and eight high shimmers.”
Dawon isn’t stopping at lipstick, either. “We hope to expand the line very soon,” she says. “Anyone who knows me, knows that I am brow obsessed, so that gives you a little hint to what I’m cooking up!”
