The women in Tequana Colvin’s family always taught her to follow her passions. Today, she does just that by following her passion of “prettification” and teaching others the tricks of the trade.

Colvin, a freelance makeup artist by trade, launched FLAWless Face Makeup Artistry after hosting the “Flawless Face Affair Workshop” learning experience in August 2013. She created the event concept after being asked by so many clients, friends and family for makeup advice and tips. “That event had such a wonderful turn out that I decided to grow that concept into an actual business,” Colvin explains. “Not just applying makeup to clients but teaching them as well how to DIY.”

Flawless Face hosts a variety of makeup DIY parties. “I can come and teach a lesson to your guests, while also applying makeup on everyone for a evening out on the town,” she explains. “FLAWless Face also caters to your ‘Mini Mes,’ because we offer party hosting that incorporate age appropriate and fun makeup for the little ones.”

Colvin says the concept behind FLAWless Face Makeup Artistry is to provide application services, and also the education clients need to recreate the look at home. “We provide a flawless face for any occasion, but also, give individuals the tools to create a flawless face for themselves,” says Colvin. “Teaching my clients to perfect their own makeup application was how I wanted my artistry to stand apart from others.”

FLAWless Face Makeup Artistry doesn’t just teach clients how to do “everyday” makeup looks. “I specialize in teaching every day wear makeup, special effects makeup, face and body painting, and high fashion, photo shoot and runway makeup,” explains Colvin.

The business has grown tremendously since the launch. “I’ve provided my makeup services for a wide variety of events,” Colvin explains, “from weddings, little girl birthday parties, a rare and unique divorce celebration, face painting for kids parties, private lessons, and volunteer applications for under-privileged girls for prom.”

Colvin often collaborates with Greg Cooper, who specializes in hair and photography. She also works with a wide variety of local productions and events. “Cincinnati Raw Artist Show, The Art of Hair Show with Salon on the Ohio, and the Eclectic Art Show are some of the productions in which my makeup artistry has been featured,” she expains. “I’m most proud of my special effects makeup artistry being displayed in the Cincinnati Black Theatre Company’s production of The Color Purple stage play.”
