The first thing you notice when you step into Indulju Relaxation Boutique is the smell – a mix of lavender, orange, and peppermint aromas. The next thing you notice is the music – a soothing blend of rhythmic tones and vocals. Just by stepping inside you feel instantly calmer, away from the hectic whirlwind of the everyday world.

“When we open the store everyday we take the time to set the atmosphere,” says owner, Nichol Carmichael. “We want it to be as warm and pleasing and comfortable as possible.”

To let people truly relax – that was Carmichael’s goal when she opened Indulju this past June. She has enjoyed massage most of her life, starting when she would give her father massages when she was a little girl. Recognizing the importance of human touch and wanting to give people a more personal massage experience is what drove her to open her own boutique.

“I’m a natural nurturer,” says Carmichael. “Massage is something that’s a part of who I am and I want to share that with people.”

There are several different types of massages offered at Indulju. They range from a 30 minute table massage to a chair massage to a couples massage to a massage where two Relaxation Specialists work on you at the same time! Before you even enter a Relaxation Specialist will have you fill out a form to customize your massage so that you get what you want and need. They break away from the one-size-fits-all mold.

“At most places where you get a massage, they try to get people through the door and get as many massages as they can in a day,” says Carmichael. “Here we truly give you a massage for the time you paid for along with a complimentary foot soak and relaxation time on our Zero Gravity chair beforehand to clear your mind.”

Speaking from personal experience, Indulju truly makes the experience personal and allows you to fully clear your mind. They allow you to customize what parts of your body you would like massaged, the oils being used, and the ambiance of the room you will receive your massage.

Indulju also allows clients to rent out the space as a reception area or for a pampering session with friends. Already the space has been rented out for baby showers, bridal showers, and girls getaway nights for those special pampering sessions.

Since Indulju has only been open for a little over a month, Carmichael is currently still establishing her business in the community. But that doesn’t mean that she doesn’t have some ideas for the future. “I would love to be able to start massage classes like a couples massage class where people can learn how to massage their spouse,” says Carmichael. “I also really want to be able to do a mini bridal show where I could feature small businesses and vendors in the wedding industry.”
