A new dermatology practice recently opened in Kenwood. Learn about the unique care these medical experts provide for infants, children, teens, and young adults.
With such a wide variety of skin conditions, you’ve likely been to the dermatologist more than a few times in your life. But, until now, there wasn’t a physician in the Cincinnati area who treated the conditions most frequently reported by children, teens, and young adults.
To help fill that void, Dr. Kara Shah and nurse practitioner Susan MacPherson launched Kenwood Dermatology, which began seeing patients in early October. MacPherson, alongside Shah, focus on pediatric, adolescent, and young adult dermatology. “With a highly knowledgeable and experienced staff, we will be providing expert care the day the practice opens,” says MacPherson.
The inspiration to open a dermatology office focused on this small niche came about when Shah and MacPherson noticed a lack of resources for the pediatric, adolescent, and young adult categories for dermatological care.
The main focus a Kenwood Dermatology is patient care, and MacPherson says she and Shah are able to provide the efficient and expert dermatologic care local children, teens, and young adults are seeking.
Shah is an expert in pediatric and adolescent dermatology with years of experience from Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center where she served as Medical Director of the Division of Dermatology. “Dr. Shah started this practice in an effort to be able to provide excellent and efficient dermatology care,” explains MacPherson. “Dr. Shah has received many top doctor awards, most recently Cincinnati Magazine’s Top Doctors 2016 and Castle Connolly Regional Top Doctors 2016.”
MacPherson has been a registered nurse for 11 years and a nurse practitioner since 2013. In 2011, MacPherson joined the Division of Pediatric Dermatology at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, and beginning in 2013 she worked as a nurse practitioner specializing in pediatric dermatology in collaboration with Shah.
MacPherson says that what makes Kenwood Dermatology unique is not only its experienced staff but also its target audience. As the only dermatology practice in the area that focuses on pediatric, adolescent, and young adult care, Kenwood Dermatology will be able to reach an entire percentage of the population that hasn’t previously been able to find specific dermatologic care.
“Our highly experienced clinical staff has worked together for many years in dermatology and has provided excellent patient care in the younger population,” she adds.
MacPherson says that Kenwood Dermatology doesn’t focus on cosmetic procedures, but rather, the treatment of conditions including acne, eczema, warts, mole checks, hemangioma and other vascular lesions, psoriasis, nail conditions, and more.
