Rachel Lisa launched a new makeup line to offer clients a fresh out of the studio look |
With the right tools and tips, you can look like you just hopped out of a makeup artist’s chair everyday. That’s why Covington-based Rachel Lisa launched a new makeup line and classes to help clients learn their face shape, which colors flatter, how much to apply and how to apply it.
Rachel Lisa began her career working in Los Angeles as a makeup artist, and eventually racked up more than 20 years of experience in film, bridal fashion and commercial work as well as teaching makeup to students at West L.A. College.
Then, in October 2012, she relocated her business to her hometown of Cincinnati. “I think Cincinnati women want as much glam and beauty as anyone in any city, and I wanted to bring that element here,” she explains. “Why should all of the people in Hollywood enjoy all of the fun?” Family and Cincinnati have always been near and dear to her, she says. In fact, Rachel Lisa’s inspiration for doing makeup is her mother who was a makeup artist in the 70s.
Rachel Lisa says her goal is to always give her clients the best. “Being a makeup artist goes way beyond just knowing how to apply makeup to another person’s face,” she says. “From the most natural looks to high drama, I love to do it all! Clients can hire me for everything from a special occasion for themselves, photo shoots, commercials or weddings.”
She comes from a time before Photoshop, Rachel Lisa says, so she doesn’t rely on digital retouching. “Whether its airbrush or traditional makeup, every service provided will be 100% perfect and camera ready, all the time,” she explains.
That dedication to perfection is paying off, too. She recently earned several awards, to include the Raw Artist Makeup artist of the year award. “I went from being the new kid in town to booking up over a year in advance for weddings and doing multiple private lessons every week,” she says. “So much so, that I have begun to groom other makeup artists to do things, so we can service more clients in the area.”
Rachel Lisa recently opened an brick and mortar studio to host client and makeup artist training sessions. The studio is located at 128 West Pike Street, Covington, KY 41011. “Makeup classes are for everyone,” she says. “I see everything from 22 year old girls who have never really learned to do their makeup the way they want to wear it, to 60 year old women that want a refresher course, and to know they’re using age appropriate products”

A class lasts between 2-3 hours and all participants receives a customized face chart to reference when they’re applying makeup at home. “There’s something different for everyone to learn,” she says, “from the 5 minute everyday face, to highlighting and contouring, and also the elusive smokey eye. Each lesson is tailored to cater to each individual woman.” Rachel Lisa also offers group lessons where clients can have a girl’s night while being taught makeup lessons. You can also make it a great gift for special occasions such as birthdays and holidays.
Opening up the studio has also allowed Rachel Lisa to fulfill a lifelong dream of launching her own makeup line. The goal of this line, she says, is to get all of her favorite products from every current commercial line such as NARS, MAC and Laura Mercier condensed down to one makeup line that’s HD friendly. “Anyone who wears it can be sure that they will always take killer pictures,” says Rachel Lisa. “Being a girl is fun and makeup is a part of that!”
The line is highly pigmented so you use the minimum to get the desired results and the colors are available in magnetized pans so you can mix and match your ideal colors. Also, each product is loaded with ingredients that are good for your skin, such as Shea butter and argan oil. “This great line is not tested on animals,” she explains, “and is for anyone, any age, any skin tone and type.”
