Turning trials into triumphs is how Summer Holmes adds a little sunshine to her clients’ lives.
Today, she’s the owner of A Touch of Summer Makeup Artistry. She was inspired to launch her business because she knew from a young age she was given a special talent to help others look and feel beautiful.
“I’ve known since I was a teenager that I wanted to become a makeup artist,” says Holmes. “I’ve had many opportunities to climb the corporate ladder with prestigious skincare companies. But I declined the offers because I couldn’t imagine working forever for someone else’s dream.” Today, she says she has no regrets as her business continues to grow.
Holmes has a deep well of inspiration that fuels her growth. “I am fully aware of the source of my gift,” explains Holmes. “My business is built on a spiritual foundation, and all my inspiration is from God, my family and my fiancĂ© who has been battling Crohn’s disease for over 25 years.”
A Touch of Summer Makeup Artistry is independently owned and operated by Holmes, a licensed managing cosmetologist. “I specialize in on-location bridal, beauty, fashion, commercial, theme, special effects, corrective application and makeup lessons,” says Holmes. “I’ve served the Greater Cincinnati area since 2006.”
Her makeup artistry business is unique, Holmes says, because of her extensive education and work experience. “Clients ask me all the time if I get tired of the beauty industry,” she laughs. “My response is always no, because when you do what you love it’s not work.”
Holmes graduated from Ohio University with an associate degree in business management. Then, she attended the Aveda Fredric’s Institute where she received her managing cosmetology license. “Shortly after obtaining my license, I traveled to Los Angeles California for advanced training in makeup artistry at the renowned Westmore Academy of Cosmetic Arts,” says Holmes. “I’ve been blessed to have the opportunity to work for high end cosmetic companies, elite salons and spas, modeling agencies, even a facial plastic surgeon.”
After her own wedding this summer, Holmes will resume a busy bridal season for 2014. “I am available for makeup applications and lessons for every season at any occasion,” explains Holmes. “You can also see my work at The Afterhours Show with The Bride’s Mafia at Great American Ballpark, March 6 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.”
