SugarSnap! Truck
Food trucks have been hitting cities nationwide and they’re now cruising into the streets of Cincinnati. No one knows that better than Elizabeth Romero, Secretary of the Cincinnati Food Truck Association, and owner of SugarSnap!
SugarSnap! is a mobile bakery specializing in Gourmet Desserts and locally roasted artisan coffee from La Terza. They offer a variety of fresh, made-from-scratch bakery goods that will have you and your guests talking about your event for weeks.
Friends Kristy Crouse and Elizabeth Romero created the SugarSnap! concept after realizing that a truck would be a better way of bringing their baked goods to the public than a storefront. Both have other jobs – Crouse part-time as a nurse and Romero as a financial analyst – so the truck gives them some flexibility as to where and when they’ll do their baking.
“I like the idea of running a food truck because I have a passion for baking and business,” says Romero. “My favorite thing is watching one of our followers/customers try something and make that ‘it’s-so-delicious’ face! The excitement that our followers get when they see us makes all of the hard work worth it. We love meeting new people and being involved within the community.”
Some of their Gourmet Desserts include: Cupcakes, Quarter Pound Cookies, Salted Caramel Brownies, Frozen Cheesecake covered in Chocolate, Scones and Ice Cream Floats. “All treats are baked fresh with the finest ingredients including pure Madagascar vanilla, Gourmet Chocolate, real fruit, and sweet cream butter in our mobile bakeshop,” says Romero.
Their mainstay is cupcakes, which are sold for $2.25 each: salted caramel toffee, dreamsicle, death by chocolate and red velvet among others. Their 1/4-pound cookies go for the same price.
Since its launch May 2012, SugarSnap! is participating in events all over the Tri-State, including food truck festivals as well as many others. “The Taste of Cincinnati has brought in food trucks and that has been a way to showcase our talents to a wide variety of people,” says Romero.
“We have even participated in competitions – last year we wont first place for our salted caramel brownies at the Chocolate Festival and this year we wont first place for our frozen cheesecake on a stick as well as second place for our salted caramel toffee cupcake.”
In looking to the future, Romero wants to push private orders and do more private events and weddings. “The winter is approaching us and we want our followers to still be able to enjoy our sweet treats,” she says. “Just because the truck isn’t on the road we still want to make ourselves available!”
