03.31.08 – Quote of the Day – Heart Mini Marathon

Oh, there are just too many good running quotes to pick just one…

You donย’t run against a bloody stop watch, do you hear? A runner runs against himself, against the best that’s in him. Not against a dead thing of wheels and pulleys. That’s the way to be great, running against yourself. ~Bill Persons

It’s unnatural for people to run around the city streets unless they are thieves or victims. It makes people nervous to see someone running. I know that when I see someone running on my street, my instincts tell me to let the dog go after him. ~Mike Royko

I believe that the Good Lord gave us a finite number of heartbeats and I’m damned if I’m going to use up mine running up and down a street. ~Neil Armstrong on jogging, in an interview with Walter Cronkite

I don’t think jogging is healthy, especially morning jogging. If morning joggers knew how tempting they looked to morning motorists, they would stay home and do sit-ups. ~Rita Rudner

So, you guessed it. Today’s blog is about running. This thing I do to torture myself in my spare time. On Sunday, I ran the 15k Heart Mini Marathon. I just looked up my time… I came in 2062nd place! Woohoo! haha… yeah, I’m not very fast. My final time was 1:35:16 which is a 10:14 minute/mile split if you’re counting. I was actually pretty excited about that. Two years ago, I ran it and yes I did better then… 1:32:01 finishing time with a 9:54 split. But I was actually hard core training then. And this year, well, I’m not training hardly at all.

All things considered, I’m pretty happy that I only ran 20 seconds/mile slower than when I was getting up five times a week and running 10 miles. Plus I’m two years older, and I’m not the young pup I was in ’06! ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh, and a fun fact for anyone with too much time on their hands… if you go to runphotos.comin a week or so, you can see photos of all the runners in mid-run. People don’t look the same makeupless, sweaty, rained on and trying to climb the torrential Torrence Ave hill. Just don’t look me up. I wasn’t having a good hair day. ๐Ÿ˜‰
