The Weekend Update (WU)

 Jan 23-25

Featured artist:

Shari Lauter does it all – keys, composition, percussion, bass and violin. She’s been in all kinds of bands, of all sorts of genres. Currently, her main projects are: Perfect Jewish Couple, an electro-synth duo that has been compared to Depeche Mode and Pet Shop Boys; and Sid Hatfield and The Deciders, which play a mix of Indie Rock and Americana. She is also the musical director at Congregation Beth Adam.

If you ever meet her, chances are she will be rocking out. You can catch her in person this Saturday, Jan. 24 with Sid Hatfield and the Deciders at the Comet in Northside. Why not match a great beer and bourbon selection with the best burritos in town and some fun music. Rumor is, it’s also a birthday party – buy Shari a drink! Music starts at 10 p.m. and never stops.

Friday Jan 16: If you like vocal music, this show is not to be missed. The Greater Cincinnati Performing Arts Society presents Cadence, a male quartet that performs Jazz, Classical, Pop and Doo-Wop – all a capella. They have toured internationally and are sure to be a hit here. 8 p.m. Jan 23, St. Xavier High School Performance Center, 600 West North Bend Road, Cincinnati, OH 45224. $25. Info: 513.484.0157.

Saturday Jan 17: Not sure where to spend your Saturday night? How about with cold beer, warm burritos and live music? Sid Hatfield and The Deciders will be celebrating all that’s new and wonderful starting at 10 p.m. at the Comet in Northside, 4597 Hamilton Ave. No cover charge!

Sunday Jan 18: This concert sold out almost before it went public, so they added a second show – enjoy a special performance by renowned World Piano Competition medalist Rui Shi. She has been a soloist with 10 major orchestras and has won six international competitions – and after the performance, she will sign CDs. It will be a rare opportunity to hear this caliber of music in an intimate concert setting. 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan 25. Fifth Third Lecture Hall, Cincinnati Art Museum, 953 Eden Park Drive. $10 general admission, free to members. Reservations required. Info: 513-721-ARTS
