The WU -weekend update – March 28-30
The WU –– March 28-30
This is the last weekend in March – make the most of it!
Friday
Ready for some art? Today is Final Friday downtown, when Over-the-Rhine art galleries open their doors late with refreshments, special acts and (often) opening exhibits. One show you’ll definitely want to check out: Me Machine Breakdown, featuring paintings by Bruce Riley. These large, abstract works involve patterns and color fields … provoking thought about the nature of the ego. A quote from the artist’s show statement, “The organic abstractions in this exhibition are Me … after all it’s Me that is responsible for all human induced suffering, isn’t it?” 7-10 p.m. Nicholas Gallery, 23 E. Court Street, 513-621-0780. Free.
Saturday
If you love baseball, or if you just want to see Vice Mayor Jim Tarbell dressed up as Peanut Jim and playing harmonica, this is where you’ll want to be! Jake Speed does his famous baseball show, including a mini-parade (and a set of music) by the Queen City Zapatistas, a performance of “Casey at the Bat” by Jeremy Dublin, and lots and lots of baseball songs! Cracker Jacks and Peanuts on every table. 9 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. Arnold’s Bar and Grill,
Sunday
Long for the good old days of Jazz? Hear Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerarld, Sara Vaughn and Louis Armstrong come back to life via the Cincinnati Black Theatre Company’s, “Our Satin Dolls: Legendary Divas of Jazz.” 4 p.m. New Woodward Theatre,
