Things We Lost in the Fire
Cincy Chic was invited to a special screening of Things We Lost in the Fire. It’s Halle Berry’s and Benicio del Toro’s new flick. First of all, if you’re into filmography, it’s beautiful. The artistry of it is immaculate. Lots of extreme close ups. Directly contrasting shots of Berry’s smooth, beautiful, flawless skin and Benicio, who as my friend Neysa put it “looks like he was rode hard and put away wet.”
The message was beautiful, too. I really took it to heart. This is probably too much information, but that’s what blogs are all about, right? I have a tendency to focus on the “sub-par” and not the good in my life. I’m always in perfecting mode. But this movie had a message of “accept good.” Berry’s character had a lot of bad things happen to her, to include being a widowed mother of two, but by the end she learned how to heal from the bad and accept the good in her life. A tough lesson to learn. From this movie and this week’s spotlight story on a breast cancer survivor that wouldn’t give up her BC experience because of the lessons she learned, I’m seeing that life is too short to always be in perfecting mode. It’s good to occasionally downshift into appreciation mode.
So, I’ve heard that if you do anything for 21 days it becomes a habit. I’m going to make a habit of “accepting good.” This morning, not only did I make a to do list, but I made a list of things I’m proud of or happy about. You reading this is on my list. Thank you for your support of Cincy Chic. You’re making my dream come true.
