The snow is finally gone (knock on wood) and it seems spring is finally able to make a comeback. That means it’s time to break out your spring fashion! This season, bright colors and floral patterns are in bloom. Whether you are a bold and daring fashionista or a shy wallflower, you can pull off these sizzling Spring looks!

First, don’t ever think a specific color is completely off-limits to you. Different shades of a color look will look different on you. Try on as many different hues as you can find and you’ll start getting more ideas about colors you can wear. And if you find a color that you love, say a bright, saturated purple, and you just can’t seem to pull it off, use it as an accent color. Find that color in a belt, handbag or splash it on with a scarf.

When you’re wearing a bright colors or eye-catching patterns, look for tailored, no-frills pieces. Colorful pieces have enough pizzazz on their own. If you add too much more, it will look overwhelming.

You can even work some bright colors into those situations when more, shall we say, demure, wear is necessary. Take the office, for example. Add a bright handbag, shoes or other accessory to your drab suit, or kick it up a notch with a colorful blouse under your jacket. Bright colors pop even more when they are next to a neutral color. Try pairing bright green or orange shirt with a khaki color, or pink with navy.

Nothing says “Hello” to Spring like being able to break out a light, airy dress with a girly flower pattern. You can find these cute dresses everywhere in any pattern, cut or style. But there are a couple of tips you should keep in mind when shopping for your perfect spring dress:

  • If you are short and petite, don’t pick the dress with huge flowers all over it. The large size of the pattern will dwarf you. Instead go with a smaller, simpler print. If you are tall and slender you can pull off the larger print. Check out this bright print from Forever 21.
  • Bright, bold colors and patterns are not flattering if you are carrying some excess weight. The bright colors and big patterns will only draw attention to your size. Like the short, petite women, look for a more simple pattern, like this dress from American Eagle.
  • If you are wearing a bright pattern, keep your accessories simple, you don’t want to look gaudy and have a look that is competing with itself for attention.

You can also take advantage of flowers and patterns to slim and trim a few inches off and help you work your best features.  If you need to lose a few inches in your hips and thighs, try a patterned top with solid pants. The contrast will draw attention to your top half, making your legs look slimmer. This trick also works in reverse. If your legs are your sexiest feature, play them up with a patterned skirt or shorts and keep your top solid.

A final tip for wearing bright colors is to make sure everything fits perfectly. Bright colors don’t hide flaws — they emphasize them.
