The May 1 episode of the popular "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" show featured a Cincinnati gem: Krombholz Jewelers.

Because of a national reputation for custom-created jewelry, jeweler Lee

The Dickinson family of Beaufort, South Carolina was chosen by producers of the show to receive a new home, which was completed in late January, 2011. Bill Dickinson has served as a US Marine for 17 years and is currently deployed nearly 7,000 miles away in Afghanistan.

His wife India and their six children lived in a home that, due to financial difficulty and Bill’s deployments, had become almost inhabitable. Ty and the design team, along with many South Carolina-based donors and volunteers, worked for one week to create a safe, functional and beautiful new home for the family.

Krombholz’s donated piece
was a diamond ring featuring birthstones representing the family’s six children, with a retail value of $17,000. The ring was presented in a wooden box inscribed with "I love you" at the foot of the couple’s new bed. India slipped the sparkling new Krombholz design on her finger with tears in her eyes and revealed it to her deployed husband via webcam.

"I am so proud of the efforts of our military here in the U.S. and overseas to keep us all safe," says Krombholz. "I was never able to serve my country in the military, but I am proud to use my jewelry making talents to help many military families over the years. I believe we all need to do what we can to help support the military and their efforts!"

Bill had never been able to present India with an engagement ring, so the Krombholz-designed piece provided India with the ring she always dreamed of. "We were honored to be involved with the show and provide the Dickinson family with a very special customized Krombholz design," says Krombholz. "It was a very neat experience for me, my friends and family and the entire Krombholz Jewelers team."
