Cupcakes available at A Sweet Life
|
The cozy scent of candles mixed with the aroma of freshly baked cupcakes fills the air at A Sweet Life.
Owner Cheryl Cleary says she opened the store to be your one-stop-shop on the west side. “Plan a girlfriend trip, have lunch at the cafe next door then come shop at A Sweet Life and find the perfect gifts for you or your family,” she says, “and as you leave, pick out some cupcakes to take home for dessert!”
Prior to opening the shop, Cleary worked in retail intermittently for more than 20 years. She says she enjoyed all the aspects of retail from setting displays, advertising, helping clients, and even the paperwork!
“After working almost 10 years as a Bath and Body Works manager, I really felt the pull to open my own shop,” says Cleary. “I have always loved going to craft shows, and the amount of time and creativity that goes into making each item, combined with my love of baking I decided to open a craft and cupcake shop.”
When A Sweet Life first opened Oct. 2008, they had about 15 flavors of cupcakes and 10 crafters. Now, they are up to 30 plus flavors of cupcakes and more than 20 crafters.
In the past three years, they have expanded to also having homemade candies, jams and jellies and a knitting and yarn corner along with all of their various crafts. They have everything from hand poured soy candles and sterling silver jewelry to handmade cards to pottery, letter art, reversible table runners and baby items. “Our knitters have a wide variety of handknitted and crocheted hats, booties, sweaters, blankets and scarves,” Cleary adds.
A Sweet Life offers knitting and crochet classes and are looking to expand into offering other types of classes as well as kids craft parties. Cleary also plans to expand on baking items as well, partnering with Sweet Heart Cafe next door to offer cakes, pies, cookies, breads etc. “We are constantly listening to what our customers are looking for and trying to adjust what we offer to fit those needs,” says Cleary.
