Kim Alston, author of A Very Sweet Blog

From fashion trends to treats and travels, A Very Sweet Blog is a new go-to guide and lifestyle blog that Kim Alston launched 11 months ago.

When asked how she got the idea for the blog, Alston says, “I always had a knack for finding unique things. I’ve never been satisfied with just ordinary things. I always look for the extraordinary.” And extraordinary things are just what you’ll find on her blog.

While she’s based in New Orleans, she visits Cincinnati often and has written several posts about various Tri-State treats, such as The Original Pancake House, Germano’s Italian Ristorante, Skyline and Frisch’s Big Boy.

Throughout her blog, Alston talks about fashion, starting with the new LULU Guinness line that’s now available at JCPenney. She also covers new product launches and features various giveaways. What fashionista doesn’t love a freebie, right?

She also posts about holidays — from what to wear to the treats to taste. Click here to check out all her fun Halloween-themed posts.

Alston says her favorite posts thus far are the ones that showcase women entrepreneurship. She believes these women business owners encourage other women to start their own business. Alston also likes to write post about women who give back. Two of her favorite women to write about are Kate Woodman of Sharp Hill Designs and Meg Ray. Woodman donates a portion of her sales to Sanctuary for Families, while Ray donates all unsold merchandise to a shelter for abused women and children.

Alston also loves to showcase women bloggers who have successful businesses. “I have come across many bloggers who create wonderful beauty products (Margarita Bloom), illustrate (Sandy M. of Ooh La Frou Frou), designs fabulous handbags (Mary Jo Matsumoto) and are brilliant in photography (Rowena of Rolala Loves).” In addition, Alston likes to showcase established business owners such as the late Esther Price, Kate Spade, Lulu Ginness, and Anya Hindmarch.

“Its not only important for [readers] to know about the products these women make, but also their story,” Alston explains. “I encourage anyone with a specific talent to open an Etsy shop, start an online website, or brick and mortar shop to get their services out there and make money.”

So what’s on the horizon for A Very Sweet Blog? Alston hopes to be the Samantha Brown (Travel Channel) of blogging. “My goal is to uncover and tell everyone about the sweetest sweet shops, beauty products, fabulous fashion, scrumptious food and exquisite places all around the world,” Alston says. “I want to interview big names, small names, showcase their products and simply tell the world. There’s so much talent out there.”
