Going Red For a Cause
Paint the town red this weekend all in the name of heart health awareness. On February 8, Macy’s and the American Heart Association are celebrating American Heart Month by partnering up to present the “Go Red Total Makeover.”
Cincinnati was selected as one of only nine cities across the nation to participate in this special event that connects Macy’s stores with local American Heart Association volunteers, donors, sponsors and various community members. “Women will be invited to ‘Speak Red’ and not be silent about what they do to take care of their heart health and come together to learn how to improve their lives,” says Lori Fovel, Communications Director at the American Heart Association.
Throughout the store, guests will find several heart healthy stations. Upon entering Macy’s, you’ll be given a passport and visiting each station will enter you into a drawing for a $250 Macy’s gift card. Fovel says stations include Eat Right, Be Active, Pamper Yourself and Save a Life.
“At Eat Right, you’ll sample heart healthy recipes from the American Heart Association’s Go Red Cookbook and learn how to eat right,” she explains. “Be Active will include a visit with The Christ Hospital Health Network to receive free health screening and understand your numbers, at Pamper Yourself guests can find the perfect Go Red shade of lipstick and Macy’s cosmetics staff will offer free make up consultations and tips on how to look your best and at the Save a Life station you’ll learn CPR with a demo and 20 minute training.”
Hundreds of attendees are expected to stop by for the event, which will help to spread the message that small steps can bring about big changes in your heart health. Fovel says the mission of the American Heart Association is building healthier lives free of cardiovascular disease and stroke. “This event is designed as a hands-on, fun way to further that mission,” she adds.
In addition, The Christ Hospital Health Network will be on-hand to provide helpful information about what your numbers mean, dietary and nutritional guidelines, how you can reduce your heart disease risk and how heredity plays an important role in your overall health. “Plus,” Fovel adds, “The Go Red Total Makeover will be a fun afternoon in support of Go Red For Women,“ a mission created by the association in 2004, as a targeted initiative designed to empower women to take charge of their heart health and raise awareness of heart disease as the number one killer of women.
In conjunction with the annual Macy’s Wear Red Sale, the Go Red Total Makeover event is being held on Saturday, February 8, 2014 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Macy’s Fountain Place downtown, located at 505 Vine Street, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202. In addition, Cincy Chic is hosting “Lady in Red” at Macy’s Fountain Place from 6-9 p.m. on National Wear Red Day on Friday, February 7. Tickets are $10 and all proceeds will benefit Go Red for Women.
