Spread the love to furry friends this Valentine’s Day by shopping at a nonprofit boutique that supports a local animal shelter.
It’s not an exaggeration to say that Amy Miller is an animal lover. She’s been active in animal welfare since she bought her first Great Dane puppy almost 20 years ago from a breeder.
“When Manny needed a friend, I turned my sights to rescue and the rest was history,” she says. “Five Great Danes later, over 500 fosters and six cats, I was committed.”
Today she is the founder behind You To The Rescue, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, donation-based, upscale resale boutique.
“We rehome unwanted men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing, accessories, home goods, pet items, and small furniture to benefit the Animal Adoption Foundation, a no-kill animal shelter in the Cincinnati Tri-State,” says Miller.
At You To The Rescue, you’ll be greeted by Stella as soon as you walk through the door. She’s what Miller calls a shop dog extraordinaire.
“No bones about it, she is an attention-seeking hound, actually a lab-pittie mix that most of our frequent shoppers ask for by name,” she says. “She loves supporters of You To The Rescue and lets them know that it’s OK to shop!”
When you spend money at You To The Rescue, you are not only finding treasures for yourself and your pets, but you’re donating to a great cause.
“Your purchase makes a difference in the lives of the animals in our community,” says Miller.
When you spend $10 you provide a microchip for a shelter animal, $45 enables a dog to receive life-saving vaccinations, and $65 can spay or neuter a shelter pet.
While shoppers are offering financial support, the nonprofit also utilizes the hands-on help of the community to follow through on their mission.
“Being a nonprofit we rely heavily on volunteers,” says Miller. “At times it gets quite hairy and we could use additional paws for processing donations, steaming clothing, tagging, and restocking inventory. Volunteer with us to help them.”
While the main focus at You To The Rescue is to raise funds for the Animal Adoption Foundation, they also give support to highlighting current adoptable pets in the shop and hope to hold awareness and adoption events in the future.
Miller says to keep an eye out for spring finds at the store, as well as an upcoming Bag Sale around Valentine’s Day. The sale gives shoppers the opportunity to stuff a bag with clothing for $10.
You To The Rescue is located at 9510 Montgomery Road in Cincinnati. The store is open Monday through Friday from 11am-6pm and Saturday from 11am-3pm.
