Cincy Chic: What is Blue Sky Bakeshop?
Katie Re, Owner of Blue Sky Bakeshop: Blue Sky Bakeshop is a bakery that created beautifully handcrafted buttercream cakes, royal icing decorated cookies and specialty sweets. My focus is not only on design but on delicious treats.
Cincy Chic: What’s the inspiration behind the shop?
Re: I’ve always had an interest in the kitchen but when it came time to go to college, I switched my major 3 different times. I decided to take some time and found a job at a small local bakery. I loved writing on the cakes so I decided to enroll at The Midwest Culinary Institute. I worked my way up to a main wedding cake decorator at a top bakery here in Cincinnati but when I had my daughter in 2014, I decided to stay at home with her and do cakes on the side. At that time, I had a silly little business name and nothing really felt “official.” It was around the time my daughter was just learning her colors and would LOVE telling us the sky was “BLUE!” in late 2015, I decided it was time for a new name: Blue Sky Bakeshop! At first, I offered so many options, flavors, and combinations but over the last few years, I’ve paired down and really found my focus. My sugar cookie side of the business entered in the fall of 2016 and has quickly become an equal match for the buttercream cakes I offer. I have found that if I stick to a smaller menu I am able to keep my quality up and produce what truly makes me happy! I love being able to create edible works of art- because at the end of the day, it is beautiful but delicious!
Cincy Chic: What makes Blue Sky Bakeshop unique?
Re: I work with my customers one on one and aim to create something custom for them and their event. From invitations, script, photos they provide, party themes etc. I find such a joy in creating sweets for each person and party! I am constantly taking in inspiration from everything from paper products the Target dollar spot! Of course, there are so many cookie moguls on IG that are constantly providing insight and new techniques.
Cincy Chic: Where is Blue Sky Bakeshop located?
Re: I work out of my home! I offer pick-ups every Friday and work with customers to arrange specific times to pick up their orders!
