Cincy Chic: What is Winding Lane Interiors?
Julie Anne Baur, principal designer and managing partner of Winding Lane Interiors: Winding Lane Interiors is a full-service residential interior design firm based in Hyde Park with a new studio in Oakley as well. At Winding Lane Interiors, we create interiors that reflect our love of timeless classic style. We especially have a deep love of old homes, and we love bringing a dated home back to life while still retaining the classic architecture and style. Our designs are beautiful, comfortable, functional, and personalized. At Winding Lane Interiors, we believe your home should be your sanctuary. Our goal is to make your home your favorite place to be, and for you to enjoy the design process from start to finish.

Cincy Chic: What’s the inspiration behind it?
Baur: The inspiration behind the name “Winding Lane Interiors” is the beautiful country home of my beloved grandparents, Sis & Jay Steinhart, in Clarence, New York. “The Cottage” on Winding Lane, as my grandparents called it, was on several beautiful acres, and it was the the place where our large, fun, loud and wonderful extended family gathered for many years.  “The Cottage” hosted weddings, birthday and anniversary parties, endless games of croquet, cocktails by the pool, and music nights where my grandfather played the piano and we all sang and danced and enjoyed being a family together. This was my favorite place in the world, and my happiest childhood memories took place there. The home itself was originally built in 1811 and was added onto several times over the years, including by my grandparents, so that it became a sprawling wonderful place to be.  My grandmother had an innate sense of style and class, and this home reflected that, as well as the “good bones” that many old homes have such as gorgeous leaded glass windows, beamed ceilings, and original woodwork.  She and my grandfather loved to entertain, andeveryone who entered “The Cottage at Winding Lane” felt welcome, loved and comfortable to put their feet up and relax or join the party and dance! This is the first home that I ever fell in love with, and my love of homes and interiors (and gardens!) began here. So, it was only fitting that I name my interior design firm after this most favorite of places.

Cincy Chic: Who’s behind it?
Baur: I am the Principal Designer and Founder of Winding Lane Interiors. I grew up in Florida and graduated with honors from Vanderbilt University. After college, I moved to Cincinnati and earned a Master’s Degree from Xavier University and studied Interior Design at The Art Institute of Ohio. After gaining valuable experience working for several years as an interior designer for a local antiques and interiors store, I founded Winding Lane Interiors in 2014.  She specializes in creating fresh, clean, traditional and transitional residential interiors. Julie Anne has a unique ability to connect with her clients and really “see” what they are wanting out of their spaces, often when they are not even sure that that is. My team and I love working with clients who are excited about the design process but want to rely on a designer to handle the hundreds of details needed to lead a project smoothly from start to finish.

Cincy Chic: What design services do you offer?
Baur: Winding Lane Interiors offers a range of design services from a 2-hour in-home Design Consultation to a Full-Service whole home remodel and redesign including custom furnishings. We assist our clients with floor plans and layouts, furniture selection, procurement and installation, custom kitchen and bath designs and installation, paint color and wallpaper selection, lighting, art and accessories, and much more.

At Winding Lane Interior, we are focused on helping transform not only your home but also your life. We are truly a white-glove design firm, meaning that our full-service clients do not need to lift a finger during the design process from start to finish.

Cincy Chic: What makes Winding Lane Interiors unique?
Baur: There are several things that make Winding Lane Interiors unique!

First is the incredible working relationships we develop with our clients. This is due largely to our ability to connect with our clients, to really listen to and learn about their needs as well as their style and preferences, and to be able to translate that into a unique and personalized design that always receives rave reviews!

Second, the two greatest compliments an interior designer can receive are 1. A repeat client.  2. A referral by a client to a family member or friend. At Winding Lane Interiors, 75% of our business come from one of those two sources. We ensure that our clients not only are happy with the final results, but also, just as importantly, that they enjoy the process from start to finish. While renovations and redecorating can be stressful at times, we work hard to make the entire experience a positive one for our clients, which is probably why so many of them call us again and again — to help them with additional rooms, new homes, and vacation homes, and why they are happy to refer us to their family and friends.

Cincy Chic: Is there anything new on the horizon for 2021?
Baur: We are so excited to have a new design studio located just off Oakley Square inside Select Kitchen Design’s fabulous showroom! One of the benefits of this new design studio to our clients is that they can come to the showroom to see and select their cabinetry, hardware, and countertops for their kitchens and bathrooms, as well as fabrics, wallpapers, artwork and more! They can “sit-test” a chair or sofa and even some of our fabulous outdoor furniture! Once COVID restrictions are removed, we are looking forward to hosting several design events in this showroom and we would love to invite your readers to join us!  We are hoping to host the first one this summer — a fun night of cocktails and design!
