The Fitness Throw Down and Symposium hosted
by the Women’s Fitness Association will be held June 28.

Meeting people and having fun is the ultimate goal for this year’s Fitness Throw Down and Symposium event, according to founder of the Women’s Fitness Association (WFA) and certified personal trainer Lisa Coors. Plus, with the event going into its second year, Coors expects to double the participants from last year. “There will be 16 trainers to teach at the event,” she explains. “I am hoping for over 25 vendors at the event and 200 participants.”

The Fitness Throw Down will be held Saturday June 28 from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Five Seasons Center. The event will allow participants to take exercise classes in the areas of Yoga, Pilates, Zumba, Tabata, TRX and Boxing, to name a few. There will also be lectures in the areas of life balance and weight loss. “The participants can take up to five 30 minute classes and get to vote for their favorite instructor,” she explains, “The instructor with the most votes wins the crystal Throw Down Trophy.” Coors says that the fitness instructors have to apply in order to teach at the event and then if they get chosen they get to do an in person audition during the last weekend of March.

The Fitness Throw Down will begin in the morning with a keynote speaker and a light breakfast once the participants check-in and get their swag bags. From there, the participants can take their classes and visit the vendors in the expo. At noon, lunch will be served and the winning instructor of the Throw Down will be announced. Both the tiki bar and pool will be open as well. “This year, we added lecture classes and classes are now 30 minutes instead of 45 minutes which will allow for more classes,” Coors says.

Those interested in registering for the Throw Down can visit the WFA’s website. The fee is $60 which includes classes, meals and a t-shirt. For Five Seasons members, the classes featured at the Throw Down are free but food and t-shirts are extra. Sponsorships are also available starting with a booth for $100. Corporate Sponsorships start at $250.

“In the past we have had numerous corporate sponsors such as: HHB Partners, ProScan Imaging and North Side Bank and Trust. Some of our vendors have been the American Council on Exercise, Brooks, The Running Spot, Made by Mare, Brew River GastroPub, Suzzane Singh Medical Massage and Dr. Steve King,” she says. There will also be a silent auction with items donated by the vendors that will be at the Fitness Throw Down.

Thus far, Coors says the event has had wonderful feedback with many participants asking for more vendors and more classes. “As we grow our event and we eventually build WFA chapters across the country, we are hoping that our chapters will host their own Fitness Throw Downs,” she adds. Coming up, Coors and the WFA will be hosting workshops on April 10 and May 8 featuring Networking and Work Life Balance.
