Cincy Chic: What is Busom Buds?
Emily Smith: We are unique woman’s boutique. We pride ourselves on having something for everyone. My mom and I opened the boutique together, so it’s a place for women, by women.
Cincy Chic: Why are you and your mom so passionate about what you’re doing?
Smith: We like making other people feel good about themselves. My mom is a breast cancer survivor and the way she was treated by local stores during her treatment was appalling.
When you’re feeling down – physically or emotionally – you need all the friends and happiness you can find. Busom Buds is a very friendly and happy place for women.
Cincy Chic: Where are you located and what makes you unique?
Smith: What makes us unique is that we care about each person that walks through the door. All the products we carry are unique, such as Sassy Bax, Spanx, Nite Sweatz, Foxers and several more. We are located at The Shoppes of Tylersville West:

Cincy Chic: We understand you’re having a big event to officially open your doors for business. Tell us about that.
Smith: We just moved to a store front Feb. 2, 2008, and we are celebrating our “Grande Opening” March 15 from 11a.m.-6p.m. Everything in the store will be 20 percent off. We will also be giving out door prizes!
Cincy Chic: Why did you call it Busom Buds?
Smith: The way I came up with our name, “Busom Buds” was actually pretty easy. My mom has always been my best friend and my nickname growing up was “Bud” or “Buddy.” I was my mom’s buddy and we were always together. The “Busom” part came from my mom’s breast, which was affected by breast cancer.
The way she was treated during her treatment was cruel and no other woman should ever have to be treated like that. This is why I decided to open my own store so we could make sure woman are treated the way they deserve to be treated. And we both can relate to the other women in need. My mom went through the cancer, but not alone. I was right there with her the entire time.
Cincy Chic: What’s your favorite item currently carried at Busom Buds?
Smith: My mom’s favorite items we carry are the new Vintage purses we just got when we were in New York and washable sandals for the summer, which as great by the pool. My mom has always loved shoes and purses. My favorite item would have to be Warm Whiskers. They are a stuffed animal filled with lavendar and chamomile, so they are very relaxing. You can also put them in the microwave or freezer to act as a heating or cooling pad.
Cincy Chic: What’s your favorite thing about Cincinnati?
Smith: Our favorite thing about Cincinnati is the warm friendly feeling that you get from everybody, and it’s home!
