There are two ends of the spectrum when it comes to meeting the man of your dreams. It’s either the smoky bar or the buttoned-up church singles club.
But one organization, Jewish Singles Together Around The River (JStar), is finding a happy medium as they celebrate Israel’s birthday.
They have regular outings such as speed dating, bowling and retreats. But their biggest event is on May 8, for Isreal’s big birthday bash. This year, the densely populated event featured ethnic food booths, Israeli wine and beer, The Idan Raichel Project and other local worldbeat bands, such as:
- The Idan Raichel Project (Ethiopian/Caribbean/Middle Easter/Israeli Music)
- Chinese Lion Dancers
- Tuzinho Capoeira & Percussion Jam
- Kai Kweol & Parade & Drum Jam Parade
- Poco Loco (salsa) with Kama Salsa (dance lessons)
- Southern Baptist Gospel Choir
- Mohenjo Daro (Indian) & Gaiananda Belly Dance
- Acarya (Hard acoustic World Rock)
- Sogbety Diamamande’s West African Drum & Dance Company
- Baoku & The Image
- Elderwood Quintet
- Dante’s Gypsy Circus
- The Pickled Brothers
The event is designed to bring people together, no matter if someone is actively practicing the Jewish faith as an orthodox, conservative, reform, secular or is unaffiliated.
“Our goal is to provide genuinely fun social opportunities for Jewish Singles from across the Jewish Community,” states the JStar Web site.
According to the JStar Web site, the organization is “a group of single (and almost single) Jews in our 20s, 30s, and 40s in the greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky/Southeast Indiana area.”
