Cincy Chic: Why did you start your business, Sales Konnect?
Kendra Ramirez: I was having great success with LinkedIn for business development, and my peers and coworkers asked how I was having such great success. I started getting calls for coffee and lunch to show people how to use LinkedIn. The calls just kept growing, so I started charging for the “meet ups.” I felt I was really on to something and went full time in May with my company after doing it on the side for over a year. It has been so rewarding to watch others change their game and become crazy successful by using the social tools. My consulting business teaches others what I have been able to do for my own business.
Cincy Chic: Why is social marketing so important? Can a modern business survive without it?
Ramirez: No, I don’t think a modern business can survive without it because social networking is as important as your company being found in Google. If your company can’t be found in Google, then your company doesn’t exist. Same applies to social media: If your company can’t be found, it doesn’t exist.
Cincy Chic: You have an event coming up on Dec. 17, “LinkedIn 101 – How to Market Your Business Using LinkedIn.” Why do you think LinkedIn is so important for business people?
Ramirez: LinkedIn is so important for business people to understand at all levels: sales, recruiting, marketing, IT, finance, etc You can learn from others in your industry and talk to others in your target market. This is warm calling and business development at its finest.
Cincy Chic: On which social media sites does Sales Konnect have a presence?
Ramirez: I don’t have Sales Konnect on all social media sites; that would be insane. We are on LinkedIn, Facebook, Plaxo, Twitter, Blogger, WordPress, Plurk, FriendFeed, Fast Pitch, PitchEngine, Ning, Perfect Networker, SelfGrowth, StumbleUpon and Technorati, just to name a few.
Cincy Chic: You recently also held a “Blogging 101” workshop. Do you have any favorite local blogs?
Ramirez: Of course, Cincy Chic and the women bloggers posted on CincyWomenBloggers.com.
Cincy Chic: What’s the most important bit of advice you can offer professionals in regards to social marketing?
Ramirez: Most important advice in regards to social marketing is be human, be real and give back to your communities that you build.
Ramirez: My social marketing “don’t” is do not talk about your company all day, every day through social media. You have to bring value and serve that community.
Cincy Chic: Since this is our “Geek Chic” issue, do you have a geek chic style of your own?
Ramirez: I have always been a geek at heart. I have been in the information technology “IT” community for over 12 years. What can I say? I love this stuff. My style would be passion for helping others take their game to the next level.
Cincy Chic: Anything geeky or techie you’re really excited about seeing under your Christmas tree this year?
Ramirez: The Amazon Kindle — way cool — would love to have one.
Cincy Chic: What’s your favorite thing about Cincinnati?
Ramirez: My favorite thing about Cincinnati is community, community, community.
