Bookworm Wednesdays
A night at the movies doesn’t always have to be on the weekends, and it the experience can be about more than just the movie. That’s why Showcase Cinemas Springdale is encouraging local families to take a mid-week break to enjoy a fun and rewarding summer reading program that was developed to encourage young children to read during the summer months?
“Bookworm Wednesdays” gives kids free admission to a select children’s film when they present a book report at a participating Cinema de Lux, Showcase, or Multiplex cinemas box office.
In fact, this is the 15th summer season of the Bookworm Wednesdays program for the Showcase Cinemas Springdale.
“Based on several studies, there is an important call for parents to keep their children reading during the summer months in order to minimize summer learning loss a.k.a. the ‘summer slide,’” says Rebecca Stein, Sr. Director of Marketing for National Amusements/Showcase Cinemas.
Every Wednesday, from July 9 to August 13, Springdale 18: Cinema de Lux will be offering free admission to a select movie to kids and their parents who bring in a book report which can be downloaded on the site.
With this in mind, Showcase Cinemas wanted to offer young patrons a great interactive motivation for reading during summer break. “Showcase Cinemas’ Bookworm program has proven to be a huge success with kids and families and truly serves the communities where we own and operate theaters,” says Stein.
Some of the upcoming shows include ‘Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2’ on July 9, ‘Epic’ on July 16, ‘Despicable Me 2’ on July 23, ‘The Croods’ on July 30, ‘Turbo’ on Aug. 6 and ‘The Smurfs 2’ on Aug. 13.
Springdale 18: Cinema de Lux is located at 12064 Springfield Pike, Springdale, OH 45246. Children under six who accompany a participant and adults who accompany a participant receive free admittance to the Bookworm Wednesdays movie and do not need to submit a book report. No purchase necessary.
