Cincy Chic: What is Bee Mine Sunshine?
Marissa Beisner, Owner of Bee Mine Sunshine: Bee Mine Sunshine is your destination for fashionable, beautiful clothing and accessories for mothers and their little ones.
Cincy Chic: What’s the inspiration behind your shop?
Beisner: I am inspired by simply being a mother to a beautiful little girl! I strive to create the very things I want to use every day in my own life and in both mine and my daughter’s wardrobes.
Cincy Chic: Who’s behind Bee Mine Sunshine?
Beisner: I started creating items as soon as my mother would allow me to use her sewing machine! I started making pillows around age 10 for my dolls. In high school, I made my own purses; just figuring things out as I went along. When I was pregnant with my daughter, of course I wanted to make everything I could so it would be both unique and sentimental. That was when the seeds of Bee Mine Sunshine were planted in my mind.
Cincy Chic: When did you launch Bee Mine Sunshine?
Beisner: Bee Mine Sunshine began in August 2014 when my daughter was 8 months old and I was full of ideas of things to create that would be both useful and beautiful for us both.
Cincy Chic: What did you do prior to starting your business?
Beisner: I was an injured RN working at a desk job and going nowhere I had dreamed of going in my career. My life as an OR nurse was over and I was in mourning. The only other career I had ever dreamed of was owning my own business. That was scary. Going into business was a terrifying, yet exciting thought…and I jumped right into it with the support of my amazing husband and the inspiration of my beautiful daughter.
Cincy Chic: What types of products to you offer customers?
Beisner: I offer a wide variety of headbands in various styles, leggings for babies and toddlers, teething necklaces and my new line of children’s and women’s tees. I always have even more at the shows that I participate in! You can often find pacifier clips, bibs, burp cloths, hair clips, scarves and more when you come visit me at any number of Cincinnati shows.
Cincy Chic: Can you give us price points?
Beisner: Prices usually range from $10 to $32.
Cincy Chic: What makes Bee Mine Sunshine unique?
Beisner: Bee Mine Sunshine stands out through our exclusive state pride line of products. In February 2015 I began designing my own fabrics. Ohio has such strong team pride and I wanted my customers to be able to have products that showcased that in a unique way. In March 2015 I launched my first three exclusive prints and they sold out within hours! I knew I had to keep creating more. Shortly after, I launched two Cincinnati-themed prints, a baseball print and then two Kentucky prints. I hope to continue building on this unique line of products and my number one request is for more team-themed prints.
Bee Mine Sunshine also launched a charity project this summer that provides care packages to families who could use encouragement and support. We take nominations all year for families who have lost a child, families with a child who has a serious medical condition and families with a child in the NICU or PICU. There is no cost to nominate a family. Costs are covered by proceeds from shop sales and, if desired, there is a $1 downloadable coloring page that can be colored and mailed back to us and included in a future package. 100 percent of proceeds from the coloring page go to the project. More information is available at www.beeminesunshine.com/read-me.
Cincy Chic: Is there anything new on the horizon for Bee Mine Sunshine?
Beisner: I plan on creating a lot of new tee designs in 2016. I launched my first line of “bee” designs a couple of weeks ago and plan to continue that line, which is made from my very own sketches! I also hope to release a few new team themed designs in time for the next football season. I am also expecting the number of stores that are stocking Bee Mine Sunshine products. They can now be found at Diamonds & Dimples in Bellevue, Kentucky, the Kenwood Mall at the brand new Simply Vague Store and in two Columbus-area locations including the Simply Vague Store at the Polaris Mall and A Little Simplicity Boutique.
Cincy Chic: Where can readers go to learn more?
Beisner: All of our information, products, show schedule and more, including video tutorials and style inspiration, can be found on our website. You can also read more about our charity project on the Care Package Project page of the website.
