Cincy Chic: Who’s behind GLOW Art Gallery and Studio?
Collin Rowland, Owner of Glow Gallery Studio:I’m the owner and visionary behind Glow Gallery Studio. I’ve owned this historic 140-year-old, 3 story building (originally built as a tobacco housing and distribution warehouse) for about 16 years now. From the beginning, I had hoped to one day see something art or music related going on in this eclectic first floor store-front space.
Cincy Chic: What was the inspiration behind the concept?
Rowland: I wanted to inspire people by providing a space for creating and exhibiting unique, meaningful and excellent artwork.
Cincy Chic: Where is GLOW Art Gallery and Studio located?
Rowland: We’re located in historic Main Strauss, in the heart of the Arts District at 264 West Pike Street in Covington, Kentucky.
Cincy Chic: How and when did GLOW Art Gallery and Studio get started?
Rowland: The idea came about 16 years ago when I first bought the building. A few fellow artist/musician friends and I moved in, built a recording studio, recorded tons of bands and singer-song writers, threw raves, had drum circles, art events, worship events, experimental music jams, lots of creative momentum going on there. I eventually renovated the building, created 2 large loft apartments upstairs and, as of 2013, renovated the 1st floor into the GLOW Art Studio and Gallery. A wonderful space for my friend & business partner Daniel Augur and myself (Rowland Augur) to create and display our collaborations, as well as exhibiting our GLOW Collective team of the talented Evan Hildebrandt and Alison Shepard.
Cincy Chic: What types of art work do you have for sale and what are some of your price points?
Rowland: We sell original artwork by local and national artists Rowland Augur, Evan Hildebrandt, Alison Shepard, Collin Rowland and more. With a focus on contemporary and modern work, GLOW artists provide a variety of mediums for most any aesthetic need. Mixed media, painting, metal fabrication, sculpture, abstract, photorealism, portraiture, photography, light boxes, murals and much more.
Customer art projects are available by having the artists work directly with the client’s ideas and design needs.
We also offer art consulting by working directly with our clients by meeting in the homes and businesses where the artwork is needed and assisting in providing creative solutions!
We also provide the opportunity for art lovers to “try before you buy” artwork with art leasing. This is also a nice option for those that like the variety of rotating work on a monthly or quarterly basis.
The gallery can also be leased for photo shoots, meetings, inspired brain storming sessions, private parties, meet-ups, artist talks, engagement parties, bridal showers, anniversary events, charity events and more.
Our price points range from $50 for smaller prints to $5,000 for larger one-of-a-kind work.
Cincy Chic: What makes GLOW Art Gallery and Studio unique?
Rowland: GLOW Art Gallery and Studio is dedicated to bringing bold, high-quality and meaningful art into individual and corporate spaces. Meaningful in that our GLOW artists are rooted in bringing a positive narrative and concepts to the world through the work.
Our artists make work that is not just intended to “match a rug”, but to bring energy into a space that is palpable, moving and thought provoking. GLOW artists want more from their work than just aesthetic, they want to bring you an experience! To feel that it is has brought an inherent value and life into your space.
Each artist is dedicated to creating cutting edge, forward thinking artwork that pushes the boundaries of current art trends. Constantly working on new and innovative ideas to bring a heightened visual experience through their work.
Cincy Chic: Is there anything new on the horizon for the gallery?
Rowland: Presently, we have a full gallery of work on display at GLOW, by appointment only. We also recently launched the new www.glowgallery.org website. We’re planning a GLOW Collective Exhibition (our primary artists and consultants) for August 2, 2014.
