Lindsay Graves and husband John, founders of Graves & Graves, LLC

Cincy Chic: Who’s behind your new law firm, Graves & Graves, LLC?
Lindsay Graves, Co-founder of Graves & Graves, LLC: We are a husband and wife law practice made up of myself and my husband, John Graves.

Cincy Chic: When did the firm get started?
Graves: This question actually has two answers. I first launched my own practice in 2011 as a solo attorney. After about two years, we decided that John would join me, and in January 2013, we launched what is now Graves & Graves, LLC.

Cincy Chic: What’s the inspiration behind the law firm’s logo?
Graves: I’m so glad you asked this question! Our logo was done by the creative minds at The All Night Party. When we met with them to discuss what we were looking for, we kept coming to this nautical theme. We had been using the tagline “Helping you navigate long term care options.” We also were trying to evoke a sense of peace of mind. Families dealing with aging often face very tough and painful decisions, and we feel that our role is to steer the ship so that the families can spend quality time with their loved ones. The result was a blend of an anchor, a compass, and the scales of justice. We love it!

Cincy Chic: Why did you choose elder law?
Graves: I have always been extremely close with my grandmother, who we referred to as “Mo.” She was a huge influence in my life and through spending time with her, I found myself drawn to working with the elderly. Throughout my school years, I volunteered with several nursing homes and organizations that benefitted the aging community. In law school, I worked for a firm doing guardianship work, which really started me down the path of turning my love of working with the elderly into a career. When I graduated, I was fortunate to find a mentor who taught me all about Medicare, Medicaid and nursing home rights, all of which combined to form an elder law practice in which I am able to help families handle various aspects of the challenges that arise as a natural part of the aging process.

Cincy Chic: What makes you different from other elder law firms?
Graves:I have to say that Cincinnati has a very robust community of elder law attorneys, but I think what sets us apart is the holistic approach we take. We strive to not just complete the task at hand, but go the extra mile to make sure the client and their family have what they need to cope with the process from a physical and emotional perspective. That often means traveling to the clients, taking calls while on vacation, driving families around to view different facilities and being available just to talk if that is what they need.

Cincy Chic: Can you tell us about the new, free series you’re doing with the library?
Graves: We are so excited to be partnered with the Cincinnati Public Library to offer Seniors’ Second Saturdays, a free educational series, to the public! The concept is that on the second Saturday of every month, at 1:30 at the Blue Ash branch, we will be presenting on a variety of elder law topics, such as Medicare and Medicaid basics, how to stay in your home and get the care you need and nursing home selection and rights. We strongly believe in educating the public so that as they face some of these situations, they know how to protect themselves and ask the right questions.

Cincy Chic: Is there anything new on the horizon for Graves & Graves?
Graves: We are always looking for better ways to serve the community. Our big focus right now is this new series with the library, but we are also partnering with health care providers and financial advisors to put on other educational events and extend services in under-served communities.

Cincy Chic: Where can readers go to learn more or get in contact with you?
