Cincy Chic: Who’s behind Heaven Essence?
Denise Harris, Founder of Heaven Essence: I founded Heaven Essence in 2001. I lived on a 200-acre horse farm and we farmed soy beans for a living. With my soy background I decided to create the first-ever body massage oil candle. I traveled the world with some of the top corporate companies such as Toyota, Nextel and Avon setting up resorts in spas for incentive programs. I wanted to bring a spa-like experience into everyone’s home as if they were at one of the top spas.
Cincy Chic: Why did you decide to open in Cincinnati?
Harris: Our corporate office has been in Dayton since we opened but we’ve since decided to move to Cincinnati for a combination of reasons. I want to relaunch in Cincinnati and I’m also going to be close to my children who are attending the University of Cincinnati.
Cincy Chic: How has Heaven Essence grown and changed over time?
Harris: When I first started Heaven Essence, I was making candles in my basement and now we’ve grown to a 3,000-square-foot facility and we sell candles all over the world.
Cincy Chic: What do you currently offer customers?
Harris: We have an amazing candle that’s healthy for your skin and loaded with vitamins E and B12. Our products are hypoallergenic, non-toxic and a lot of fun. We have body lotions, body creams and, of course, body candles. We also sell robes, slippers, massage stones and back brushes – everything you need to be pampered at home as if you were at a day spa. Our candles also melt just below your body temperature.
Cincy Chic: What are some of your best-sellers and their price points?
Harris: Our best sellers are the pouring passion body candle as well as the lotion body bars. Our products range in price from $25 to $35.
Cincy Chic: What makes your business unique?
Harris: Heaven Essence is unique because of the different ways that we sell our products. We offer home spa parties. Offering hostesses free product and consultants job opportunities making 30 to 50 percent commission. We also sell our products online and do private labeling for different companies. Heaven Essence makes all of their own products here in the United States and all of our products are handmade and hand poured in our manufacturing location.
Cincy Chic: Anything new on the horizon?
Harris: We’re planning a relaunch of the home spa part division and looking to bring on new consultants, for which we’re also offering weekly opportunity meetings.
Cincy Chic: Where can readers go to learn more?
