Chic Spotlight: Ladybugs Bakery

by -

We chat with the mastermind behind Ladybugs Bakery to learn how one girls’ night out turned into a blossoming business of tasty bites.

Ladybugs Bakery is serving up tasty treats including cupcakes and cake pops.

Cincy Chic: What is Ladybugs Bakery?
Sarah Leever, Co-Founder of Ladybugs Bakery: We’re a cupcake and Bug Bite (cake pop) bakery that’s here for all of your celebration needs.

Cincy Chic: Who’s behind the business?
Leever: I’m the mastermind, Jennifer Brannock is the inspired baker and Molly Buckler is the creative genius.

Cincy Chic: What’s the inspiration behind Ladybugs Bakery?
Leever: Our journey began at Norwood Middle School where we all met. As teachers, we decided to put our creativity to other uses. We all like dessert, so how about cupcakes? From cupcakes came the idea of cake pops, because who wouldn’t love a ball of cake and frosting dipped in chocolate? Our business has been helped along thanks to our many co-workers who generously offered to taste-test all of our recipes. We’re so excited about baking and creating goodies to make parties, showers, weddings and other get-togethers lots of fun!

Cincy Chic: When did the bakery open?
Leever: We started in February 2011 after a fun girls weekend in the Short North district of Columbus. We realized how much fun we could have baking and creating these treats, so we decided to turn our passion into more than just a hobby.

Cincy Chic: What’s your favorite part about running Ladybugs Bakery?
Leever: Our favorite part is spending time together. Our lives are pretty chaotic as teachers and what not, and this gives us a chance to hang out and be of service to others at the same time. We work really well together and manage the ebb and flow of business between all of us.

Cincy Chic: What kinds of goodies are you making for customers?
Leever: We make cupcakes, Bug Bites (cake pops) and smash cakes.

Cincy Chic: Can you give us price points for your baked goods?
Leever: Regular cupcakes are $2 each or $22 for 1 dozen (minimum order of 1 dozen), mini cupcakes are $1 each and $22 for 2 dozen (minimum order of 2 dozen), Bug Bites are $2 each or $22 for 1 dozen (minimum order of 2 dozen) and they come bagged and tagged while naked Bug Bites are $1 each or $11 for 1 dozen with a minimum order of 2 dozen.

Cincy Chic: Is there anything new on the horizon for Ladybugs Bakery?
Leever: We are always experimenting with flavors and trying to perfect new things. We would like to add more flavor options to the list. We would also like to add a line of alcohol-inspired bug bites to honor our love of drinking. We love to throw parties so we’re hoping to get more people interested in hosting parties where they decorate cupcakes or learn to make Bug Bites together.

Cincy Chic: Where can readers go to learn more?
Leever: We’re on Facebook and Instagram. Our website is currently under construction but can be found at www.ladybugscupcakes.blogspot.com.
