Cincy Chic: When did you launch Red Fusion Photography?
Jennifer Coleman Smith, Owner of Red Fusion Photography: My business partner, Brooke, and I had worked together in the past at a wedding and family photography studio. We had both operated successful photography businesses on our own for several years before we decided to join forces and launch Red Fusion Photography in 2010. I have worked in the wedding photography industry since 1997.
Cincy Chic: What was your inspiration for opening your photography business?
Coleman Smith: I was a mom working out of the home. After my third son was born, I found the need to stop meeting couples in my living room and operate out of a more inspirational and professional space. The studio space allows for more creativity and gives me a chance to concentrate more fully on the business. It also allows me get some “mom time” out of my work days.
Cincy Chic: How do you balance it all?
Coleman Smith: Red wine. Just kidding. Actually, my oldest son and I share a great need for organization. I have to keep a schedule and stick to it. My husband is very supportive. We balance every day life, numerous school activities, a family dog, dual work schedules and the occasional social outing. It’s a partnership.
Cincy Chic: What makes your business unique?
Coleman Smith: It is our carefree approach. We approach children’s portraits as a more candid-style environment. Being a mom myself has allowed me to take a more unique approach to capturing the “it” expressions from kids.
As far as weddings, I love meeting the couples. I do complimentary engagement sessions to allow me to have the opportunity to get to know the personalities of the bride and groom, bride and bride or groom and groom before the typical wedding stress sets in. I have made so many friends through this business and love it. Getting to know them allows me to capture them at their best!
Cincy Chic: What are some of your favorite things to photograph?
Coleman Smith: I really enjoy photographing architecture and my kids.
Cincy Chic: Is there anything new on the horizon for you or Red Fusion?
Coleman Smith: We would love to expand our senior portrait business. We are following our couples from wedding through kids and big family. Believe it or not, I’ve been doing this so long that I’m getting close to shooting the weddings of some of those first babies!
We also want to give back to the community more. This year we are offering specials to customers who choose to donate to the Parish Kitchen in Covington throughout the holidays. I am very fortunate with my family and career and I want to be able to help those who need help along the way.
Cincy Chic: Where can readers go to learn more?
