One local lady shares the story behind her chocolate store with many special inspirations. Read on for all the delicious details.
Cincy Chic: What is Ruby’s Chocolates?
Melinda Mueller, Owner of Ruby’s Chocolates: I started Ruby’s out of my kitchen in 2008..$25.00 to put into my bank account. I wanted to make chocolate creations that not only looked amazing but tasted even better. I named my company Ruby’s after my grandmother. She was one of the strongest women I have ever met. As a child I looked up to her and wanted to one day to become as strong as her. People often ask if I’m Ruby. My response, “I haven’t accomplished enough in my life to have something named after me.” At least not yet! I want my children to look up to me as I looked up to Ruby.
Cincy Chic: What’s the inspiration behind Ruby’s Chocolates?
Mueller: The turning point for going through with my business is when my brother passed in 2008 and said on his deathbed, “I wish I would have done something with my life.” That was the moment that I knew I had to start this business and make it work! After going through a divorce – I lost my house and car and lived in my building that I’m still making the chocolate in today for over a year – but through it all I believed that God would see me through and he has!
Cincy Chic: What makes Ruby’s Chocolates unique?
Mueller: Ruby’s is unique because it is all handmade and we can specialize any order – your wish is our command! We also have a line that has bacon in it which we call “squeal appeal.”
