Cincy Chic: What is The Body Mechanic?
Stephanie Rusk, Owner of The Body Mechanic: The Body Mechanic is focused on physical healing and total body wellness through massage therapy. We’re located inside of Mt. Lookout Hair Design on Mt. Lookout Square.
Cincy Chic: What’s the inspiration behind The Body Mechanic?
Rusk: The inspiration behind The Body Mechanic is the idea that we can get better performance, heal and prevent weakness throughout the muscular system, and essentially “run” better with the proper body maintenance. There are many aspects to a healthy body, but I wanted to create an environment where relaxation massage and medical massage come together to create an experience of total body wellness through massage.
Cincy Chic: Tell us more about you and your background!
Rusk: I’m originally from Alaska and a graduate of the Cincinnati School of Medical Massage. For me, massage is a vocation and my mission is to help people overcome pain with this medical approach to massage.
Cincy Chic: What makes The Body Mechanic unique?
Rusk: In conjunction with local dentists and chiropractors, The Body Mechanic is dedicated to supporting the real treatment of many disorders. What makes The Body Mechanic unique is the specialty massage that are offered. While many people suffer from TMJ Dysfunction, few have been able to find relief even with extreme measures such as surgery. The Body Mechanic offers an intra-oral massage to help relieve muscular pain and tension, which helps the jaw to function correctly. The other specialty massage offered is Neuromuscular therapy—a technique that’s helping clients find the source of their pain and relieving it when other methods have been unsuccessful.
Cincy Chic: Can you share more about neuromuscular therapy?
Rusk: Neuromuscular therapy is practiced in a variety of ways. I specialize in a technique called Precision Neuromuscular Therapy. Working through each individual muscle very slowly and methodically helps to make sure that the hypersensitive area of soft tissue, called a trigger point, is found and not missed by working too quickly or by skipping over muscles. During your session I will focus almost completely on this area and its related muscle groups.
Cincy Chic: What about price points for services?
Rusk: Relaxation massages range from 60 to 90 minutes and are $65 to $105. Neuromuscular massages range from 60-90 minutes and are $85 to $110. A TMJD massage is $85 for the first appointment and $80 for follow-up. Relaxation+Neuromuscular is $115 for a 90-minute session.
Cincy Chic: Is there anything new on the horizon for your business?
Rusk: The Body Mechanic is continuing to partner with local dentists and chiropractors to expand our Precision Neuromuscular Massage Therapy practice in order to offer more patients options for pain relief treatment plans. The Body Mechanic is also excited to get more involved in treating local first responders and athletes in the Tri-State area to improve their performance, help them recover from injury and meet their goals. The Body Mechanic offers a 10 percent discount to all police, first responders, active military and veterans as well as competitive athletes who need a “tune-up.”
