Learn about the renovated a 19th century church in Bellevue that’s now a bed and breakfast ranked as one of the best inns for interior design and decor.

Christopher’s Bed and Breakfast is located in a renovated and church and boasts a great location and historic design.

Located in one of Bellevue’s three historic districts is Christopher’s Bed and Breakfast. With views of the Ohio river and the Cincinnati skyline, this quaint little B&B is located less than two miles from Newport on the Levee in the Taylor’s Daughters neighborhood, and is also just a short walking distance from the Historic Fairfield Avenue District of shops and restaurants.

Since its opening in August 1997, Brenda Guidugli and her family have been running the B&B, which is located in the former home of the Bellevue Christian Church.

“Christopher’s is a bed and breakfast in a renovated church that offers overnight getaways and also caters to couples wishing to celebrate special occasions, or to reconnect with their loved one,” explains Guidugli, who is the B&B’s innkeeper.

The structure comes with plenty of history behind it. The property was put up for sale after the church merged with the Dayton, Kentucky, Church of Christ. Local zoning restriction meant that the building had to be used as either a church, daycare, primary residence or a bed and breakfast.

“While owning several two-family rental properties, low-interest rates were enticing good tenants to purchase homes and at that time, the idea of opening a bed and breakfast gave us inspiration to pursue city approval before purchasing the former church,” says Guidugli.

Stained glass windows are featured in each of the three rooms and Christopher's.

Housing the B&B in a former church helps give it plenty of unique characteristics. This 19th century church still has the original stained glass windows and hardwood floors. With 8,100-square-feet, the property offers three spacious Jacuzzi suites, each with its own stained-glass window for a romantic and rich ambiance.

“Named after the patron saint of travelers, Christopher’s has been voted by inn-goers for three consecutive years as one of the Top 15 B&Bs for Best Interior Design and Decor in Arrington’s Bed and Breakfast Journal’s Book of Lists,” adds Guidugli.

The three rooms available at Christopher’s are the Beverly Rose Whirlpool Room, Loretta Rose Whirlpool Room and the Governor’s Suit. “Each offer a private bath and premium bedding and are equipped with free Internet, Wi-Fi and flat screen televisions,” says Guidugli. “A common room, named the Sitting Room, is for guests to gather and enjoy snacks and refreshments.”

Room rates for the Beverly and Loretta rooms are $135 excluding tax while the Governor’s Suite is $195 excluding tax.

Guidugli says they hope to eventually convert the former church hall into a small event center, but they don’t quite have a project start date just yet, so you’ll have to keep an eye out for the news.
