Everyday Inspiration: The Wars In Our Own Homes
Robberies, murders, wars are all advertisements. Every single act that you watch on the news or read about in the newspaper subliminally broadcasts to the viewer, the mindset of the accused.
A holdup at UDF, for instance, blatantly reveals the consciousness level, education and circumstances of the accused. Most of all, exposes what they yearn to attain from an outside source, like money in this case of the UDF robbery. If only they could have articulated their yearnings for what was really at the core; happiness, peace, safety, security, contentment, love. It probably would have sounded like a prayer.
What these people were hoping to attain was nothing different than any of us. When some of these qualities, or all of them, seem missing, we search outside of ourselves thinking we will find these very things in the material possessions of the world. For example, a certain salary, car or a certain piece of furniture promises fulfillment. If only we possessed it.
Every Spiritual quality you will ever search for is inside of yourself. Take Peace for example. Most of us feel that the only way to achieve peace is when some external circumstances change. “If only she stopped acting this way, when this gets done, or when this happens.” We are giving these outer circumstances the power to dictate our peace of mind. That pounding of the hammer, the condescending partner, the barking of the dog, the rudeness of the shop owner, even the disappearance of the keys.
You wage mini wars, executions and emotional murders all conveniently in your own home. We go off the rails, screaming, demeaning others, blaming and generally making a miserable stink around us. But it doesn’t make the headlines. These crimes don’t generally serve time. However they cost us ourselves, our innate power and the peace of mind that would be ours if we could only harness it.
It is very convenient to blame others. It gives us an excuse to blow up and allows us to avoid looking at ourselves and taking responsibility. Responsibility is what will set us free and will stop the wars. When you want something you have to BE it. You can’t expect to have world peace if you can’t even achieve it in your own backyard.
You want peace? It has to be unconditional. REGARDLESS of the conditions that present themselves to you. This is the distinction. The point. This is what the real work is all about. It is the Miracle Mindset when you see that only you have the power to adjust your mind to the conditions that are set forth.
We all want to feel peace, happiness, contentment, and joy. Yet we each have a set of criteria that has to be met in order for that to be achieved.
Well, you know what? Forget about these criteria. We want to be able to achieve Happiness in ANY circumstance, but we want Happiness our way, i.e. a quiet house, straight-A children, and an understanding spouse. But your Happiness is NOT dependent on those conditions. It can be achieved regardless of anything that goes on outside of yourself. It’s an inside job. It is a choice inside your mind.
We think that the world is the cause and our Peace and Happiness is the effect. This isn’t true, it is the opposite actually. Our Mind is the cause and the world and how we see it is the effect.
“Perception is a mirror, not a fact. And what I look upon is my state of mind reflected outward. An outside picture of an inward condition.” Course in Miracles 1:3-4
I cannot GET peace or happiness from the world itself or from the people and things inside it. I bring these to the world. They flow through me as I become Who I Really Am.
Instead of reacting to what is being broadcast over the news headlines, refuse to add to the momentum. Respond with what you are and what you want to see. Your mind reflected outwards. Respond with Compassion, kindness, understanding, humility, and love.
When you identify with peace and wholeness, this is what you will see. Peace to all.
Are You Ready?
As you take each step I will be there reminding you of your Magnificence, and I will continue to do so, until you are able to see it in yourself. © Copyright. Jennifer Annenberg Productions. 2013.
