Starting preschool can be stressful not only for the student but also for the parents. It’s more time away from your child than ever before, so you want to feel reassured that they are in a safe environment where they can get a good education. But how do you know what school is the right choice?
Erin Meyer, mother of four an owner of Tree Tops Preschool, has been in your shoes before. That’s actually why she started the preschool. “We personalize programs to fit the child instead of having the child fit the program,” Meyer explains. “We want a balance between ‘book smart’ and ‘street smart.’ Having both will provide a solid foundation between the social and emotional affects on students.”
Meyer, along with two other certified preschool teachers, hold classes daily in her recently finished basement that she had specifically constructed for classroom time. Last year, the program had only 12 students. Since the changes were announced new improvements, the number doubled to 24 students.
“This past year, we have taught in a small office and now that we remodeled our basement into a classroom we look forward to next year where we want to double our numbers again so we can expand our families and enrichment programs,” says Meyer.
Tree Tops Preschool offers programs such as 2- to 3-year-old have a two-day program running from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for $95, as well as two 3- to 5-year-old three-day programs going 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. each day or 12:30 p.m. to 3p.m. for $125 each. If another combination of days works better for your family, the preschool can customize a program that works best for you and your child.
Your child does not need to be potty trained due to the fact that their curriculum focuses on Life Skills, Life-Science Skills, and Pre-K Skills.
“What I have done is start a private in school preschool that had one class last year and grew to three this year,” says Meyer. “Our mission is to offer a private preschool out of my home which is a loving and caring environment that can be used to prepare children for kindergarten.”
You may be wondering how Meyer has time to do it all, especially as a mother of four. “Some weeks I feel are very balanced while others just aren’t,” says Meyer. “Each day morning I wake up, hope for the best, and wait for what the day brings.”
