Cincy Chic: What is Baby Bodyguards of SW Ohio?
Jon Weidlich, Founder of Baby Bodyguards of SW Ohio: We provide quality safety services for families with babies and small children. This includes home babyproofing, certified car seat installation and in-home CPR classes. We believe that new parents have enough to do without worrying about how safe their home environment is. We come in, walk through the home with the parent and install any necessary devices. The most important to us are safety without too many restrictions, education and thoroughness. We always use high-quality products, and are certified and experienced.

Cincy Chic: What’s the inspiration behind Baby Bodyguard of SW Ohio?
Weidlich: Its origins in Cincinnati really began in Chicago — Dylan Weidlich (our son) was going to school there and became an EMT for Loyola University; he began working with several Chicago firefighters—providing CPR classes for expectant parents, becoming certified and installing car seats and consulting with Chicago Children’s Hospital on car seats for post-operative children and children with other special needs. When he returned to Cincinnati, he wanted to continue working with families on safety issues. My wife (Shawn Smith) and I joined him, and we found a family in Brooklyn that was doing this work as Baby Bodyguards. We became their first location outside of New York City.

Cincy Chic: When did Baby Bodyguards of SW Ohio launch?
Weidlich: We began operating in late 2014.

Cincy Chic: What makes Baby Bodyguards unique?
Weidlich: We’re a specialized service, with specific knowledge and certification in baby and home safety. It’s our responsibility to find and take care of potential issues in a home; parents shouldn’t have to guess at whether their home (or car) is safe enough, or whether they’ve done enough—and they often don’t have the time it takes to baby proof. But we also educate parents on more than just physical hazards. If we’ve done our job, kids are safer and parents are more knowledgeable.

Cincy Chic: What do you enjoy most about running Baby Bodyguards?
Weidlich: We love babies, and we love talking to people. Growing up, my parents were foster parents — taking in mostly infants for a few months at a time — so by the time I was a teenager I had about two dozen foster siblings (not all at the same time, of course!).

Cincy Chic: Is there anything new on the horizon for you guys?
Weidlich: We’ve been excited to connect with those who provide services and products for babies and families, getting to know baby stores, doulas, nanny services, doctors and others who are making sure kids are healthy and happy. It’s a great community of people.

Cincy Chic: Where can readers go to learn more?
