Husband and wife team Cody and Leah Jones wanted to bring something unique to Cincinnati. They both love olive oil, and Leah, having grown up in an Italian family, is passionate about fine wine and delicious Mediterranean food.
Together, they found We Olive & Wine Bar, which combines artisanal wine, simple yet unique gourmet food, locally-sourced extra virgin olive oil, and a comfortable old-world atmosphere.
“Both Cody and I are Cincinnatians and we felt strongly that We Olive would be something our community could fall in love with too, and truly the reception from both residents and visitors has been an affirmation of that,” says Leah. “We’re very excited to be downtown, both literally and figuratively in the middle of a fast growing foodie culture in Cincinnati.”
The food items served at We Olive are designed so that customers can recreate them at home, and the Joneses pride themselves on providing “a culinary experience built on the premise that healthy and delicious food should be accessible for anyone who enjoys cooking – or really, just eating!”
What makes We Olive unique, according to Leah, is its focus on the experience. Guests can sample all products used in the menu so that they can discover how the products can be used in a variety of ways, and be inspired to recreate the meals at home. “Each plate incorporates We Olive products in such a way that with a few items from us and from your grocery, customers can discover new ways to prepare delicious food,” says Jones.
Though We Olive’s focus is on domestically-produced extra virgin olive oil certified by the California Olive Oil Council, the menu also uses ingredients such as balsamic vinegars and tapenades.
Dishes include fresh salads, paninis, flatbreads, fresh baguette, a high-quality cheese and charcuterie plate, prosciutto-wrapped dates finished with Blood Orange Balsamic, stuffed peppadews drizzled with Traditional Aged Balsamic, and Albacore dip with creamy Meyer Lemon olive oil.
Desserts are unique and made from the highest quality ingredients, such as Dojo Gelato, drizzled with Blood Orange olive oil and topped with glazed walnuts. The wine bar provides both wine tastings and sales by the glass or bottle.
We Olive will be involved in a number of events in the near future. Every month, We Olive will host at least one wine tasting, and there will also be cooking demos and other special events. On September 30 at 6 pm, We Olive will partner with Revelry Vintners, out of Walla Walla, Washington, for a special in-house wine tasting. Tickets can be purchased on We Olive’s website.
