Cincy Chic: Tell us more about Sweetspire Ranch!
Pat Gorman, Owner of Sweetspire Ranch: Sweetspire Ranch is the newest country chic wedding venue and Bed & Breakfast in the Cincinnati area. A charming 25-acre working horse ranch with a large ranch house, barns, pastures, ponds, trails and nature abounding.

It has been our home for the last twenty-seven years where we have enjoyed our children, grandchildren, horses, dogs, cats and chickens. The time has come for us to share what our family and visitors have enjoyed these many years.

Gorman: Myself, Pat Gorman, and my husband Hearsel. We have been happily married for 47 years and we have decided to share our family home of 27 years. Cincy Chic: Tell us more about how you transformed your family home into a bed & breakfast and event venue space!
Gorman: We are truly excited to be open this summer for weddings! If your dream involves a beautiful countryside setting, where nature abounds and where deer and horses peacefully graze, we would love to show you our piece of heaven on earth, Sweetspire Ranch. We offer a variety of outdoor settings for your reception, and your ceremony if desired. The Ranch House is also included, offering spacious social areas, a full kitchen, and two suites, for bridal party preparation and for your honeymoon. It would be hard to find a finer honeymoon suite than our Orchid Suite, which encompasses the entire back of the house with the most spectacular views. Getting married? A local jeweler is hosting its annual sale to help you find the looks you want for your big day.

Richter and Phillips opened a new location on the west side of 6th and Main streets.

Wedding season is just around the corner and that means brides-to-be are searching for the perfect piece of jewelry to truly make them shine on their big day. To help you find exactly what you’re looking for, Richter & Phillips is hosting their annual Diamond, Engagement, and Wedding Band Sale March 10-12.

According to Carol Ryan, Advertising and Marketing Director at Richter & Phillips, the sale will feature representatives from many of the major jewelry designers the store carries, including Michael M, Martin Flyer, Simon G, Gabriel, Coast, Goldman, and Henri Daussi. 

At the sale you can expect to find discounts on many brands as well as loose diamonds. Plus, you can enjoy light bites and cocktails to get you in the mood while you taste wedding cake samples.

If you’ve already got the bands and are just looking to perfect your bridal look, Ryan says there is plenty of on-trend jewelry in store.

Some of the biggest trends in bridal jewelry this season include yellow and rose gold, as well as platinum jewelry. “Some of our brides are mixing those different types of gold and stacking bands,” adds Ryan. 

As always, halos are very popular with brides as are vintage touches on wedding bands.

Bridal sales aren’t the only thing keeping the team at Richter & Phillips busy. They’ve recently opened a new location on the west side of 6th and Main streets. “Our new showroom is three times the size of the old and is truly beautiful,” says Ryan. “The showcases and lighting truly allow the jewelry to shine and sparkle, the difference is amazing.”

A veteran makeup artist with 16 years experience in celebrity, bridal, beauty, film and editorial makeup Crist describes herself as a “meticulous visionary with a passion for transformation.”

Employed as a MAC makeup artist Crist relocated from Cincinnati to L.A. and had the opportunity to work with some of today’s biggest stars at exclusive events in the entertainment and fashion industry. “I’ve had the pleasure of working with celebrities such as; Carmen Electra, Devon Aoki, Vivica Fox, Pamela Anderson, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Keira Knightley, Marilyn Manson and Dave Navarro,” Crist says.     This year’s wedding season is upon us. If you’re planning a wedding, then you know that there’s a lot of work behind the words “wedding planning.” Whether you’re doing it on your own or with the help of a planner, you’ll quickly learn that there are different wedding trends every year.

    That’s where Nidhi Bedi, founder and owner of A Bride’s Mafia, a Cincinnati-based wedding concierge business, can help. She says with expansive visual resources like Pinterest, brides are following fewer trends and mass-produced concepts, and instead, finding inspirations that uniquely create their her own vision. “Brides aren’t going by what’s trends or the colors they saw at the last wedding,” she adds. “This year is about designing their vision and making it a reality.”

    For example, Bedi says, while metallic is very popular among brides, they’re bringing this style out in their own unique way. “Some brides to them to make their event over the top, some use a sparkle to make it whimsical and others use it to make it complete earth tones,” she says.

    Bedi says brides are taking Pinterest ideas and customizing them. “They will take lighting, chandeliers, linens and centerpieces, to name a few, and give it their own personality stamp,” she says. “They aren’t just using up-lighting, but brides are turning to gobos with monograms and customized designs.”

    When and where a bride is having her wedding also plays into the design, theme and colors she chooses. That’s why she recommends booking a venue as one of the very first steps in planning, as it sets the tone for many other wedding day decisions.

    The trends that Bedi says makes her most excited for this year’s wedding season is all the variation. “I just love the different weddings we’ve been seeing – from metallics, earth tones, bright color fusion and greenery,” she says. “There’s so much variation and I love them all because it makes each event so unique.”

    Bedi and A Bride’s Mafia are helping brides meet with the vendors of their dreams at the upcoming Afterhours Bridal Show at Great American Ballpark on March 10 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. “This show is absolutely my favorite of the year,” says Bedi. “It’s so fun! It’s at the ballpark and we have 90 amazing vendors in this show.”

    From table linens to photographers and videographers, florists and DJs, the Afterhours Bridal Show lets you meet with those vendors to let you see the latest trends up close and personal.

    Bedi says that A Bride’s Mafia took extra steps this year to help get the groom involved. “I think we’ve hit a home run there,” she says while discussing the new Grooms Workshop.

    The workshop, hosted by Hey! Mr. DJ, allows grooms to get pointers on how to make their day unique and how to be involved in the finer details of the planning process. Plus, after the workshop they get to go to the batting cages.

    Brides who attend the show can enter to win a $20,000 wedding. The winner of the grand prize will get married at the ballpark, and A Bride’s Mafia covers the rental, dress, tuxedo, DJ, photographer, videographer, hair, makeup, florist, limousine, cake and a coordinator. “It always makes my day to meet the winner and see how excited they are,” she says. “The team of vendors that do the giveaway are so amazing and incredible.”

    A local wedding planner announces the launch of her new online lifestyle publication for brides-to-be, and a healthy living blog as well. Keep reading for all the details.

    Kathy Piech-Lukas, owner of Your Dream Day, has been planning events for more than 20 years and specifically focusing on weddings for the past 12. So, it’s safe to say she knows how to plan a great wedding, and has connections with the right people to make it all happen.

    “While finalizing the details for my own wedding, I had five vendors ask me if I had ever considered being a professional wedding planner,” Piech-Lukas recalls. “My first response was ‘What is a wedding planner?’ I had no idea it was a career. My husband and I decided to give it a year, and 12 years and more than 200 weddings later, I am still standing! So those vendors must have saw special something in me and I am so thankful they did.”

    That something special, in addition to being honest and genuine with her clients, is what Piech-Lukas says makes her different.

    “I have a philosophy that wedding planning should be fun, Piech-Lukas says. “People get so bogged down in all of the details like flowers, colors, guests lists and seating charts. My goal is to keep couples focused on the reason why they’re planning the wedding in the first place. We also offer an honest referral for each individual client about who is best for their specific needs, style and budget. No vendors pay to be on my list and I don’t accept kickbacks. Most of my couples think of me like the big sister who keeps them – and their parents – sane and in check!”

    Over the years, Your Dream Day has earned several accolades, including The Knot’s “Best of Weddings” four times, Bride’s Choice, and recognition from Cincinnati Wedding Magazine.

    “For me, the award that means the most to me was when we were inducted into the Knot Best of Weddings Hall of Fame,” Piech-Lukas says. “It is an exclusive club that requires four wins. Those wins are determined by reviews left by our couples. I consider myself a professional people pleaser, and knowing that I made such a positive impact on their day touches my heart.”

    In fact, making a positive impact is what inspired Piech-Lukas to launch a new online lifestyle publication for brides-to-be. Going live this week, will now feature a variety of wedding-related lifestyle topics, vendor interviews, and behind-the-scenes spotlights on local weddings.

    “Inspired by Cincy Chic, this new e-zine will feature real local wedding professionals, real local weddings and wonderful content,” Piech-Lukas says. “My goal is to create a blog and newsletter that couples can read that is informative, gives readers a chance to know why specific wedding professionals are experts at what they do and that the content is strictly editorial.”

    That’s not all. Piech-Lukas is also launching a healthy living blog,, inspired by her wellness journey where she lost 40 pounds and transitioned to an organic diet, all while battling an autoimmune disease. “I wanted a place that gives insight into my life — not just my wedding planner life, but everything else,” she explains. “ I enjoy speaking to groups and inspiring people to live their lives to the fullest despite any obstacles that may come your way. That’s what is all about.”

    Co-owners Kelly Bretcher and Megan Kramer always had a passion for makeup; both of them had worked for prestige cosmetic lines as well as doing freelance makeup artistry before deciding to start their own bridal venture together. “We celebrated our two year anniversary this [past] January,” Bretcher says.
    Blend Artistry offers a range of on-site services for brides. “We provide makeup applications including airbrush foundation, individual and strip false eyelashes, hair styling, and airbrush spray tans.” Bretcher says. “Additionally, we offer trial runs for makeup and hair, as well as lessons to help them create an everyday look to wear after their wedding.”

    In the two years since Blend Artistry launched, Bretcher says she and her team have shared many meaningful experiences with their brides. “There is a special energy on the day of a wedding. As an artist, it is a privilege to work with a bride on one of the happiest days of her life,” Bretcher adds. “Everyone gets exited to see their friend or family member transform into a beautiful bride. We take the trust they have in our team very seriously.” In addition, she says, “It is also incredibly rewarding to see the professional photos of my work. I feel lucky and blessed that most of my clients are referrals from previous weddings.”

    Regarding upcoming bridal makeup trends, Bretcher says, “In the last couple of years there has been a surge in requests for airbrush foundation, false lashes, and contour and highlight. More recently there has been a demand for matte lips and defined brows. Bridal parties are also starting to embrace a bold lip.” For the spring season, she adds, “We are looking forward to bright lips, glowing skin, and flushed cheeks.”
