Design Cincinnati will bring local interior design gurus to the city for a festival this October.

If you love home decor and home design, then you’ll want to mark your calendar for Design Cincinnati on Thursday, October 13. Presented by ClearArc Capital, Design Cincinnati is a home decor lecture, luncheon, and shopping event that will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Anderson Pavilion at Smale Park.

According to Jennifer Buchholz, the lecture will feature HGTV celebrity architect and interior designer Vern Yip and will be followed by a gourmet, basket luncheon and boutique pop-up shops selling home and decor items.

The event, which is being hosted by The Association of Volunteers, was inspired by The Cincinnati Art & Antiques Festival. “This lecture and luncheon is the crown jewel of the Art & Antiques Festival, which is a week-long event featuring different antique vendors,” explains Buchholz. “We took a change in location as a time to try out a new location and a new format, focusing on a design-celebrity speaker and a shopping event that honors our decor legacy, yet branches out beyond antiques, highlighting some of the best interior design resources in the region.”

The event will serve as a fundraiser for The Association of Volunteers and aims to raise money and provide care for patients of Convalescent Hospital for Children, which is now part of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.

Buchholz says that Design Cincinnati is a special kind of fundraiser that will offer special touches from start to finish. “We recently announced that Molly Wellmann is designing a signature cocktail for the luncheon,” says Buchholz. Each guest at the event will receive a swag bag and have the opportunity to visit a diverse group of pop-up shops including French Country Roads, Camargo Trading, Fern, Grey Hall Designs, Alyson Johnson Creative, Villa Sanctuary, West End Naturals, and a continuously growing list. Event decor for Design Cincinnati is inspired by Vern Yip’s chinoiserie fabric design.

Buchholz says that this event is just the start for The Association of Volunteers as well as the Cincinnati Art & Antiques Festival. “While our focus is this annual fundraising event, we’re planning events to continue to build our volunteer base,” she says. “We’ll start with a wine and cheese gathering in the fall, followed by some smaller scale home decor and design events throughout the year, just for our members.”

They’re also already in the planning process of the 2017 Design Cincinnati event. “We want to highlight the Cincinnati interior design community while attracting internationally renowned speakers, all while raising funds for a worthy cause,” Buchholz says.

Buchholz adds that if you’re interested in joining The Association of Volunteers, you can send an email to Jennifer Moriarty at Tickets for Design Cincinnati can be purchased on Eventbrite for $85 each.
