What are the secrets to looking and feeling your best? Read on as Kelly Heid of Makeup by Kelly has the answers.

Makeup by Kelly offers personalized makeup applications and a beauty blog.

Lookin’ good and feelin’ better isnt’ just a saying for Kelly Heid of Makeup by Kelly, it’s her business mantra.

Heid says she knows the variety of makeup products and advice is overwhelming, so she not only provides a beauty blog but also personalized makeup applications.

Heid’s passion for beauty began when she was little, but she says working in a salon is what lit the fire. “Working in a salon and being in that creative atmosphere really sparked something inside me,” Heid says. Things really took off when she did her sister’s makeup (for her own wedding) and friends liked the look and began requesting Heid to do their makeup as well.

At this time Heid’s beauty business is a one-woman show, although she is in the works of bringing an apprentice on to help with some of her larger projects.

Currently, Heid is sharing her passion for beauty through public blog posts and personalized private bookings. She says Makeup by Kelly is already a pretty large project on its own, but she hopes to one day own a studio where she could offer classes and host makeup parties. “That is the dream, but for now I’m just doing what I love and feeling really grateful,” Heid says about opening her own studio.

Getting the scoop on Heid’s most tried and true products proved a little difficult as she shares the universal struggle of choosing between the endless amount of options available. Though, when forced to pick Heid says. “I am a mascara junkie and my current obsession is with the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. The brush on that wand is amazing!” But, when looking for effortless and easy everyday picks Heid says that the necessities include a good BB cream, mascara and a cream blush that can be used for both lips and cheeks.

These beauty picks also make it easier to achieve the “no makeup makeup look,” one of the hottest beauty trends right now. says Heid. Although, she warns it’s not always as easy to pull off as people assume. “It’s about flawless skin, a little contour and defined eyes. Lips with pressed in, barely-there color,” she advises. Additionally, to give your eyebrows a little love as Heid says, “a little shaping and creating some definition can go a long way.”

The art of makeup is one that some people excel at from an early age. Summer Holmes, founder of A Touch of Summer Makeup Artistry, is one of those people.

Holmes has loved makeup for as long as she can remember. Growing up and playing with makeup turned into a lifelong passion and career – one that still excites her to this day. “I’ve been fascinated with makeup since I was a teenager. I’ve been pursuing my makeup career my entire life and get so excited every time I get the opportunity to brighten someone’s day,” she says.

A Touch of Summer Makeup Artistry has been in business since 2007 and Holmes couldn’t be more proud of how her company has evolved over the years. Makeup is so much more than something people use during their daily lives—it brings out the most beautiful aspects in a person to make them feel more confident. Holmes strives to make everyone feel gorgeous. She states, “What inspires me is makeup and my passion for making women look and feel beautiful.” When she steps back and sees a woman glowing because of her makeup, that’s when Holmes feels the most successful. “The most rewarding aspect of my job is making my clients look as good as they should feel,” she says.

Holmes has pursued makeup artistry her whole life, which gives her a competitive and unique edge to other makeup artists. She has had the opportunity to learn different techniques over many years, allowing her to become a fantastic makeup artist. “What makes my company very unique is my advanced training, experience in esthetics, and makeup artistry. I’ve dedicated my entire life to the beauty industry for almost 20 years. I understand the fundamentals of corrective skincare and the perfect makeup application,” she claims. Holmes graduated from Ohio University with an associate degree in Business Management and then went on to earn her Managing Cosmetology license from Aveda Fredrick’s Institute in Cincinnati. After that, she earned her Advanced Training Certification in Makeup Artistry from Westmore Academy of Cosmetic Arts. One thing is for sure—she is extremely qualified and experienced in her field.

Between her years of experience, there is nothing Holmes can’t handle. She does makeup for all occasions, including bridal parties, beauty pageants, boudoir photo shoots, prom pictures, etc.—just to name a few! Because she offers services for so many events, Holmes is always prepared for any client that comes her way. Finding the perfect match for all skin colors and types is no problem for Holmes as she states, “I assess every clients’ skin first to determine what products are best suited for all skin types.” She also uses any makeup on the market—high-end and drug store combined.

Aside from simply doing someone’s makeup, Holmes also offers in-depth makeup lessons. “My makeup lessons are very interactive. We will start off with a daytime look and then transform into a look that’s more dramatic. I will explain product usage and recommend proper brushes for a flawless application,” she states. So often women walk away from having their makeup done only to wish they could do the same looks on a daily basis. Holmes understands that desire and makes it a possibility as she teaches her tips and tricks during lessons. She provides makeup lessons for individuals or for groups and in a location the client prefers.

To see Holmes in action, you can find her at the Afterhours Show with A Bride’s Mafia on November 11, 2015, at Cincinnati Music Hall from 6-9pm. Visit her website for more information on services and booking.

Summer Mazion, Founder of A Touch of Summer Makeup Artistry

It all started with a simple shopping trip. “I have been fascinated with makeup since I was 13 years old when my mother took me to a cosmetic counter for my birthday,” says Summer Mazion, founder of A Touch of Summer Makeup Artistry. “Not knowing then what path my life was going to take me, I moved away from a small town to fulfill my lifelong passion of becoming a licensed certified makeup artist.”

She earned her Associate Degree in Business Management in 2001, became a Licensed Managing Cosmetologist through the Aveda Frederic’s Institute in 2002, and a certified makeup artist through Westmore Academy of Cosmetic Arts in Burbank, California, in 2003.

“I have been very fortunate to have a wide range of experience to help me along the way, working from high end cosmetic counters to a facial plastic surgeon,” she says. “I pride myself on professionalism by listening to make sure we create a look that is customized especially just for you.”

Her background is what makes her different, Mazion says. “I know the background and anatomy of skin. How to correct skin through skincare,” she explains. “That, combined with expert makeup application, creates for a flawless finish.”

While she specializes in on-location bridal makeup, she also offers makeup artistry services for special occasions, pageants, or themes like Halloween. “Being an on-location makeup artist,” Mazion explains, “it’s more convenient and time efficient for my clients.”

General rates are $175 for bridal makeup, which includes a consultation prior to wedding and artificial eyelash application, as well as a flawless, long-wearing, water resistant airbrush makeup application. Each additional person at the same location is $75 with airbrush makeup application with artificial eyelash application included.

Mazion also offers Makeup Lessons for $100 per person. “I will travel to any location and teach a one-on-one interactive makeup application,” she explains. “We will start off with a day time look, then transform into something more dramatic for evening.” Lessons last at least two hours per session and include artificial eyelash application instruction.

“For more than 20 years, I have been educating and beautifying my clients as an on location makeup artist,” Mazion says. “I look forward to showing you the amazing gifts I’ve been blessed with by making you feel your outer beauty is rivaled only by your inner beauty.”
