A local chiropractor is helping local opiate addicts end their addiction forever through chiropractic care and an online coffee shop. Read on for more.

Kiro Coffee helps to give treatment to opiate addicts to overcome their addiction.
Kiro Coffee helps to give treatment to opiate addicts to overcome their addiction.

Cincy Chic: What is Kiro Coffee?
Dr. Kelly Duffner, Founder of Kiro Coffee: Kiro Coffee is a Cincinnati-born company that offers customers amazing coffee! Our mission is to help opiate and heroin addicts gain access to the hand healing arts of chiropractic, physical therapy, and massage therapy. From each purchase, a portion is donated to organizations that help achieve this goal. By funding and powering these organizations, we can enable changes in legislation that prioritize chiropractic, physical therapy, and massage therapy before potentially addictive opiate prescription drugs.

Cincy Chic: What’s the inspiration behind Kiro Coffee?
Duffner: As a local chiropractor at Baker Chiropractic, I was treating a prominent pastor from a local church. The pastor and I would talk regularly about his local outreach program called Urban Outreach. The organization holds regular meetings where addicts and the homeless congregate to enjoy ministry, fellowship, and a good meal. They meet in the blistering heat and the bone chilling cold, sometimes with well over 100 followers attending. I told the pastor about the neurological pathways stimulated from a chiropractic adjustment and how they were similar to that of some commonly prescribed narcotics. It sparked his interest and I eagerly invited the pastor to bring recovering addicts to my office to receive treatment.

The results have been amazing to say the least. Although it wasn’t the results that spurred my interest to create Kiro Coffee, it was the people I was helping. One by one, I listened to their story. These recovering addicts were everyday people with good families and good jobs. I heard story after story about how their low back pain, neck pain, or headache led them down the typical medical route of prescription opiate drugs. After the drugs weren’t enough or they couldn’t get their scripts filled, they turned to illegal narcotics and their lives would eventually end up in turmoil. I have yet to treat a recovering addict that didn’t start with prescription opiates prior to them using heroin.

Throughout the process of their treatment I ask each individual one bold question, “What if you had known about chiropractic care sooner?” They often take a long pause and say something to the effect of “I sure wish I would’ve known about this stuff sooner.” This is why Kiro Coffee was born.

Cincy Chic: When did you open?
Duffner: We opened our online retail store September 7, 2016 with the hopes of opening our very own coffee shop in the semi-near future.

Cincy Chic: What types of items do you sell?
Duffner: We have partnered with a local roaster who produces amazing coffee beans and a product we are incredibly proud to offer. Kiro Coffee also sells quality coffee brewing equipment.

Cincy Chic: Is there anything new on the horizon for Kiro Coffee?
Duffner: In the future we also plan to create a non-profit organization from the specialties of chiropractic, physical therapy, pharmacy, massage therapy, psychology, and medicine. The goal of the organization will introduce and support legislation for patients with mechanical pain syndromes to seek chiropractic, physical therapy, and massage therapy before receiving opiate prescriptions.

Cincy Chic: Where can readers go to learn more?
Duffner: More information can be found on our website at www.kirocoffee.com.

Suffering from depression, anxiety, or other physical ailments? A new float therapy center may have just the thing you need to reduce pain and find your inner peace. Read on to learn more.

Tao Float Loft offers therapy for depression, anxiety, and several pain disorders.
Tao Float Loft offers therapy for depression, anxiety, and several pain disorders.

It was six years ago that Dylan Brown spent time researching consciousness, meditation, and other ways to alleviate anxiety and depression in a less traditional way. That’s when he discovered the benefits of floating.

“Inevitably I found floating and it changed my life,” he explains. “Traditional meditation was always a bit difficult for me to stick with so the idea of hopping in a large pod with 1,200 pounds of epsom salt dissolved in 11 inches of skin temperature water to create a weightless and sensory isolated environment intrigued me.”

Once he found floating and reveled in its benefits, Brown decided to bring his own floating center to Cincinnati: Tao Float Loft.

Tao Float Loft allows you to soak in a gravity-free pod to find inner peace.
Tao Float Loft allows you to soak in a gravity-free pod to find inner peace.

“Tao offers a natural, noninvasive service (floating) that has been around for over 60 years with more than 200 studies,” he says.

Among the many benefits of floating, you’ll find that it reduces stress, eases various pains, and can also help you to reconnect with yourself. “One hour of floating with reduced sensory input and zero gravity allows your mind and body to naturally heal itself. It’s like floating on a cloud with no distraction from the outside world,” says Brown.

And with so many things going on in all of our lives, it’s easy to become distracted, and that’s why Brown aims to bring a floating therapy center that allows you to step away from the crazy of everyday life.

“Tao Float Loft is the shortcut we all seek in meditation to reach those rare nirvana mental states,” he says. “The most interesting aspect is you naturally glide into these deep states of bliss with hardly any effort.”

When describing his first float experience, Brown says that he floated like an astronaut in space without a care in the world. “I felt truly connected with everything within and around me,” he says. “I felt at peace, and after my first few floats I managed to reduce my anxiety almost completely.”

Tao Float Loft is located in West Chester, and offers packages to help you get the full benefits of float therapy.
Tao Float Loft is located in West Chester, and offers packages to help you get the full benefits of float therapy.

Brown says that there’s also a post-float glow that will boost your health as well – a glow that lasts him for 3-5 days. “Floating became my new natural, noninvasive medication to essentially beat my anxiety down and diminish my depression,” he says. “It’s very much a practice so I continue my sessions on a weekly, routine basis.”

As soon as Tao Float Loft launched in November 2015, Brown says that it’s been a unique offering in the Tri-State. “Tao Float Loft is unlike any other place in the region,” he says. “We offer a proven natural method to relieve symptoms from stress, back and neck pain, fibromyalgia, anxiety, sports injury/recovery, and so much more.”

Plus, it’s not very likely that you’re going to find a gravity-free space-like environment in Cincinnati.

Brown adds that whether you’re looking for a spa day, a place to recover from an injury, or just to experience quiet time to reboot the mind, you’ll find it at Tao Float Loft. “We have created a beautiful state-of-the-art floatation center for the Cincinnati area,” he says. “We house two of the best float pods (i-sopods) in the world and have them shipped in from England alongside a world-class float room that offers a more open design.”

There’s also the option to enjoy a massage or infrared sauna session before or after your float to enhance the experience of visiting Tao Float Loft. Brown wants his clients to enjoy themselves and find their inner peace, so he gives them complete control over their experience. “You can leave the lid open, leave the lights on with a bit of music in the beginning – it’s all about your comfort level before heading into the euphoria of sensory isolation,” he says.

If you’re interested in trying out a float experience at Tao Float Loft, Brown says that the first 60-minute float is $59. There are also several discount packages available as it typically takes about 3 floats to adjust to the newly experienced weightless environment. With this in mind, Brown offers an introductory 3-float package for $139, breaking each float down to $46 per float and giving you the option to choose a 60- or 90-minute experience. For those who suffer from chronic pain, there is an option to float for $37 for 1 hour with a doctor’s note or recent documentation stating the condition you suffer from.

Brown says he and his team are currently whipping up a master plan to bring to Tao Float Loft, which you’ll have to stay tuned to hear more about.

You can learn more about Tao Float Loft at www.taofloatloft.com or by calling 513-755-1236. Tao is located at 7334 Tylers Corner Drive in West Chester. They’re open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. 7 days a week. You can find offers and other news on Facebook and Instagram.

Learn about a local organization that’s helping to keep top professional talent in the Tri-State through networking, group events, and professional growth opportunities.

The group that makes up NEXT Young Professionals.
The group that makes up NEXT Young Professionals.

Millennials are the employees of the future and giving them a space to develop their professional skills is important. To help the Tri-State’s young professionals develop those skills find development opportunities, the West Chester-Liberty Chamber Alliance launched the organization NEXT Young Professionals.

“We focus on providing professional and personal development opportunities in West Chester and Liberty Townships for young professionals aged 21-40 that live and/or work along the I-75 Growth Corridor,” explains Staff Liaison Pam Gruber.

Following a relaunch in April 2014, NEXT Young Professionals found itself with the help of Gruber and fellow liaison Kelly Bittlinger.

Gruber and Bittlinger say the inspiration behind NEXT Young Professionals was born when The Chamber Alliance recognized the need to create a welcoming atmosphere for young professionals to get comfortable with networking and see the importance of getting connected in the community.

“No matter what industry they work in or role they play within their organization, the more connected young professionals feel within the community, the more likely they will want to stay in this area,” says Bittlinger.

The group at NEXT Young Professionals is comprised of a devoted steering committee and loyal attendees to the monthly Night of Networking events as well as quarterly Lunch & Learns. There are also several businesses in the area that support and host the Night of Networking events for the organization, some that provide food and drinks.

Not only is NEXT Young Professionals helping young professionals in West Chester and Liberty develop personal and professional skills, but they bring a very unique opportunity that promises a future of growth in a developing part of the Tri-State.

“Our Chamber represents the townships of West Chester and Liberty, strategically located along I-75 and nearly midway between Dayton and Cincinnati,” says Gruber. “As this region continues to develop, our Chamber’s sphere of influence expands. Through its growth, the community continues to offer new opportunities to connect and grow businesses, and the West Chester-Liberty Chamber Alliance continues to educate and inform business professionals about the outstanding economic development opportunities in our region and the I-75 Growth Corridor.”

Aside from the professional developments allotted by NEXT Young Professionals, members of this organization also gain friendships.

“Even beyond the group, lifelong friendships have been formed and have gone beyond business relationships, which is important in keeping key talent in the West Chester and Liberty Townships areas,” says Gruber.

The group is always looking for new ways to collaborate and connect with organizations in the area. To contact them, send an email to info@thechamberalliance.com. NEXT Young Professionals is open to Chamber members and non-members. You can learn more here.

A local woman opened a facility to offer a cutting edge, non-invasive, radiation-free screening that uses heat detection to diagnose diseases such as cancer. See how they’re expanding this holistic approach across the Tri-State and beyond.

Jacky Groenewegen, Owner Mindful Wellness Medical Thermography.
Jacky Groenewegen, Owner Mindful Wellness Medical Thermography.

Cincy Chic: What is Mindful Wellness Medical Thermography?
Jennifer Concannon, Marketing & Office Manager at Mindful Wellness Medical Thermography: Thermography is a safe non-invasive screening that uses heat detection to locate areas of temperature differences in the body. Using infrared imaging, this provides an adjunctive screening tool and gives a clearer picture of body health status. As an example, thermography helps with breast health. This simple, no-touch, no radiation screening uses a sensitive digital infrared-sensing camera that develops a color image on a computer of the body’s thermal patterns. This pain-free, no touch, no radiation screening procedure maps, measures and monitors inflammation and other abnormalities and changes in overall body conditions earlier than most other tests. Certain kinds of diseases, like tumors, increase blood flow that cause an increase in temperature shown on a thermographic scan.

Cincy Chic: What’s the inspiration behind the Mindful Wellness?
Concannon: Jacky Groenewegen (Certified Thermographic Technician), owner Mindful Wellness Medical Thermography, opened her thermography lab in 2013. She loves the way that her background of also being a licensed massage therapist has enhanced her ability to work with people as they navigate their wellness journey via thermography. It’s a privilege for Jacky to help her clients monitor and improve their health through thermography, massage and providing holistic solutions through a monthly newsletter, blog and Facebook posts.

Cincy Chic: Who’s behind the business?
Concannon: Jacky Groenewegen, holds many certifications in thermography, therapeutic massage, healing touch, aromatherapy, and guided imagery. For the last 10 years, she has run her own massage therapy private practice as well as a holistic wellness business which sells body brush kits, guided imagery CDs, and therapeutic grade essential oils. In 2013, she expanded her practice to include Thermography Scans. She frequently speaks at health fairs, networking events, and private meetings promoting the benefits of thermography. Jacky is passionate about the safety and benefits of thermography. Your Thermography Scan offers a safe, proactive way to manage your health. Your thermoscan is a no contact, no radiation, no compression health monitoring tool.

Cincy Chic: How are you helping patients in the Tri-State?
Concannon: Thermography is a safe, adjunctive screening method helpful in the diagnosis and documentation of diseases. We also provide health screenings for these health conditions:

  • Full Body Thermal Imaging
  • Breast Health Screening
  • Thyroid Screening
  • Lymphatic congestion
  • Nervous System Disorders
  • Abdominal Inflammation
  • Vascular System Analysis
  • Neuromuscular Disorders
  • Muscular Disorders
  • Vascular Screening
  • Other Pathologies

Cincy Chic: What makes Mindful Wellness unique?
Concannon: Mindful Wellness Medical Thermography works to make every patient feel comfortable and at ease before, during & after each scan. Many patients who have had previous scans at other labs, compliment Mindful Wellness Medical Thermography on the quality, accuracy and promptness of the scan results. All scans are interpreted by three board-certified physicians of the Professional Academy of Clinical Thermology. The purpose of the thermographic evaluation is to show areas of hot and cold in the body. Thermography is greater than 99% accurate for this purpose. Therefore, we can say there are no false positives with thermal imaging. Heat can be present due to many factors. There is no such thing as “normal” inflammation in the body. This is due to a pathological process or injury. There are other labs across the country that are also associated with PACT which enables the patient continuity of care no matter where they live in the USA. Go to btiscan.com<btiscan.com> to find labs in other states. All scans are approved by Dr. Alexander Sepper, MD, Ph.D. He has practiced over 30 years as a Gynecologist, has a Ph.D. in thermology and has performed 100’s of thousands of thermal studies for women with ovarian and breast cancer.

Cincy Chic: Is there anything new on the horizon for Mindful Wellness?
Concannon: Mindful Wellness Medical Thermography expands its reach by working with practitioners like chiropractors, dentists, and integrated holistic physicians to jointly improve the health of their patients. If a thermogram is abnormal, a patient can work with his/her doctor to monitor health and treatments.

Cincy Chic: Where can readers go to learn more about Mindful Wellness and the services you provide?
Concannon: Visit our website, call 513-382-3132 to schedule an appointment, or come by our office at 8859 Cincinnati-Dayton Road Suite #007 in West Chester for more information!

Learn about the recently launched LOOP networking events that offer monthly opportunities to learn new skills and get expert advice on trending topics.

Michelle
Michelle Vondrell, Founder of LOOP Networking

Get in the loop about who and what’s in the loop. That’s the idea behind the new monthly LOOP networking events, which Michelle Vondrell recently launched to help Cincinnati professionals network with others representing businesses based in and around the Interstate 275 loop.

The idea began with Vondrell’s conversation with her mentor and it’s turned an organized effort to help other local business owners and professionals get connected and be inspired. “We decided to take the things that have the biggest value and create it,” Vondrell says. “Speakers with trending topics and an open forum. We call it ‘Vistage’ light.”

The LOOP events showcase a speaker that discusses a trending topic, and then continues on with open question time with the speaker. “It was designed originally for solo entrepreneurs like myself who have a lot on our plate to run, design, market and actually run the business,” Vondrell says. “We knew that there are many others like us in the city.”

Vondrell wanted to combine all of the positive attributes she saw in networking events with the traits that add the most value for attendees. After a successful launch, Vondrell says, their events attract business owners, entrepreneurs, bloggers and a variety of other professionals.

“Everyone was able to leave with great notes, actions, plans, etc.,” Vondrell says. “The open question time is so valuable. People are able to ask real questions, and receive real answers.”

The topics for the LOOP events are decided by Vondrell and Bambi Merz based on what they believe will offer the most value for local business people. “Bambi and myself are in the community and very connected,” Vondrell explains. “We ask a lot of questions, and of course running our own businesses certainly assists with the ideas.”

The first LOOP event was facilitated by Rick Barron, who is an expert in SEO, and discussed why businesses might not rank first in Google for the most important keywords. The second LOOP event was facilitated by Kendra Ramirez, who works as a digital strategy, training, and consultant in the Cincinnati area. She gave advice on using Twitter for business to show how to use certain tools to increase engagement and productivity.

The next event LOOP event takes place on April 11 at the UNO Pizzeria and Grill in West Chester, and Vondrell says, “Guests can expect to leave with real time answers for real questions happening every day in their business.”

Learn about the new fitness studio coming to West Chester with scientifically designed workouts that are as fun as they are effective (as in 1,000 calories an hour)!

Orangetheory Fitness is a workout that helps you burn calories up to 36 hours after you finish a class.
Orangetheory Fitness is a workout that helps you burn calories up to 36 hours after you finish a class.

It was a serendipitous encounter with Orangetheory Fitness that led Stephanie Cronk to open her first franchise location in Lexington. “Three years ago while traveling in South Florida we [Cronk and her husband] popped into an Orangetheory Fitness for a workout and fell in love, especially after talking with the staff and finding out how every workout is scientifically based,” says Cronk.

Cronk spent over 25 years in the medical industry as a Physician’s Assistant. During that time she became all too familiar with patients’ health struggles. As time passed Cronk found herself becoming increasingly passionate about the role of fitness and education as preventative measures.

Cronk’s fiery passion for fitness and education has only grown with the success of the Lexington based Orangetheory Fitness so she decided to open up a location in West Chester to support Tri-staters in their fitness needs and goals. Orangetheory Fitness is designed for all fitness levels whether you are a seasoned athlete, enthusiast or absolute beginner. “I’ve had classes where I’m running on a treadmill next to a 70 year old beginner and both of us are being pushed to our target heart rate,” Cronk says.

According to Cronk, heart rate is a large part of what makes Orangetheory Fitness uniquely effective. During the 60-minute workout participants perform multiple intervals which are designed to have them reach 12 to 20 minutes of training at 84 percent or higher of their maximum heart rate. Reaching this target heart rate puts you in the “orange zone.” This zone drives excess post-exercise oxygen (EPOC) otherwise known as “afterburn.”

Afterburn is the process in which your body continues to burn calories post-workout. According to Cronk, “the goal of each session is to get participants to reach the orange zone for 12-20 minutes which creates up to 36 hours of afternburn.” In order to maintain the most engaging fitness experience each class is limited to 24 participates who are then split in half. Each class cycles through intervals of cardio, indoor rowing and weight/resistance training. The heart rate monitor worn by each class member displays their statistics, such as zone and calories burned on 60-inch TV monitors so they can track their progress. Each workout is different in order to keep things interesting and to avoid plateaus. “Every workout is designed by a team of Kinesiologists, burning a minimum of 500 calories,” Cronk says.

A large part of what keeps Orangetheory’s workouts cutting edge is their highly qualified professional trainers. Prior to becoming part of the Orangetheory Fitness team each trainer must be certified by an accredited institute and then pass “a rigorous Orangetheory Fit certification program with master trainers,” Cronk says. In addition, Cronk conveyed that each of her trainers has several years of experience as a group fitness instructor.

Highly experienced trainers is just one benefit of the studio. Membership also includes the exclusive Orangetheory App, which allows you to stay in contact with the studio between workouts, reserve a spot in class and displays your workout statistics. The app also has a heart monitor, which allows members to track their heart rate for workouts outside the studio.

As February comes to an end, Cronk says her team is gearing up for their March 25 grand opening. Future members of the studio are getting prepped for the big opening, too. “Individuals joining Orangetheory Fitness West Chester between now and March 24 benefit from pre-opening rates,” she adds.

Orangetheory Fitness is located at 7641 Voice of America Centre Drive in West Chester. To learn more, visit their website or call (513) 718-2535

We chat with the owner of a local dog behavior and training company to learn more about the unique ways he can help your four-legged friend become a well-mannered dog.

Paws Look and Listen is an animal behavioral

Cincy Chic: What is Paws Look and Listen?
Nick Hof, Owner and Trainer of Paws Looks and Listen: Paws Look Listen is a dog behavior and training company in Cincinnati. We primarily work with clients in their homes, specializing in behavioral issues and dog & baby preparation. We also offer group classes every week for puppies and dogs.

Cincy Chic: Who’s behind the business?
Hof: I’m the owner and trainer of Paws Look Listen. I hold the title of Certified Professional Dog Trainer-Knowledge Assessed and I graduated with distinction from the Karen Pryor Academy for Animal Behavior and Training. I’m also a licensed presenter for the Family Paws program. I’ve has been working with dogs for more than a decade and am owned by three Saint Bernards and a mixed breed dog.

Cincy Chic: What’s the inspiration behind it?
Hof: Paws Look Listen was born from a need that we saw to help owners and their dogs. We often saw owners frustrated with their dogs behaviors and without the knowledge to know where to turn. Although we have extensive knowledge and experience working with a variety of dogs and their people, we don’t believe that we are the perfect match for every owner or problematic behavior. If we can’t help you, we can guarantee that we’ll be able to point you in the direction of the person who can.

Cincy Chic: What types of classes do you offer?
Hof: The majority of the work that we do is in-home training and our most popular program is Day Training. We come by several days a week and train your dog for you at your home and then show you how to replicate our results through simple training exercises. We also happily train owners alongside their dogs. Paws Look Listen also offers two group classes that meet on Saturday mornings. Our Surviving Puppyhood class is great for new puppy owners and Mind Your Manners is just the ticket for older dogs in need of some manners.

Cincy Chic: When did you launch Paws Look and Listen?
Hof: Paws Look Listen was launched in October 2010 and we will be celebrating our 5 year anniversary next month.

Cincy Chic: Can you give us price points for different types of training?
Hof: The cost for both of our group classes is currently $160 for a full six-week course. The cost for in-home training can vary dramatically based on our clients’ needs but we always begin with an initial consultation. This is a 90-minute session the cost for which is $160.

Cincy Chic: Is there anything new on the horizon for Paws Look and Listen?
Hof: We are very excited to be launching a e-newsletter that should be sent out beginning next month. Your readers can send us an email at nick@pawslooklisten.com to be added to our mailing list. We are also going to be rolling out some new classes in the coming months featuring more challenging and realistic training classes which will include field trips throughout the Cincinnati area.

Cincy Chic: Where can readers go to learn more?
Hof: For the most up-to-date information, we encourage readers to visit our website at www.pawslooklisten.com, where they can read more about each program that we offer. We also post many tips, fun articles and adorable photos of our clients on our Facebook page, so be sure to check it out.

Want to get into shape, but don’t want to join a gym? Learn about a local expert who began as a mom with back pain, and now helps others lose weight, build strength, and feel great again through individualized instruction.

072715HEALTH

Put down your grocery list and exit out of those e-mails. Head on over to Reform Your Core where Jessica Heizman, owner and instructor, gives women the opportunity to clear their mind by focusing solely on what they’re doing at the moment.

“At least 90 percent of my clients at this point are women, many of whom are either working inside or outside the home,” says Heizman. “Many times making an appointment to take the small class or private session with me is literally the only time they have to themselves that day. It’s a wonderful workout, but it’s also mind body work.”

Heizman’s personal journey with pilates started nearly 15 years ago when she was a news reporter working with not great form and having a lot of back pain from wearing high heels. It wasn’t until her physical therapist recommended pilates that she began taking classes where she was living. Upon moving to Cincinnati, Heizman decided to get certified to teach with the equipment and with mats.

“After I had my second child about five years ago and left the news, I started teaching pilates full-time,” says Heizman. “Then I opened my own studio four years ago in January. It started as just a little home business with clients coming to see me at my home—and it’s grown from there.”

“Today, my business is focused on equipment pilates small group sessions,” Heizman continues. “I’m currently expanding and adding pilates chairs, arcs and other pieces of equipment that can supplement what the reformer can do in a small group setting. A lot of people that can’t do pilates mat classes find that they’re able to do equipment classes. I can accommodate different physical issues whether that be back, head or shoulder problems.”

The price point usually ranges anywhere from $20-$30 a class depending on how often you come and the size of the package you buy. “The reason my classes tend to be a little more expensive is that I only allow three clients at a time right now, which is much smaller than most group fitness classes,” says Heizman. “You get a lot of individual attention and everyone has their own set of equipment.”

“Many of my clients are people who have done a lot of physical activities throughout their lives and for some reason they have an injury that they’re working through or they’re trying to get their body backs after just having a baby—so they feel it’s worth the little bit of extra costs to get the individual attention,” Heizman continues. “They want to know what they’re doing and that they’re doing it right.”

What truly makes Reform Your Core unique is their skilled instructors. “A lot of places will just plunk in instructors on the fly—but I don’t feel comfortable having somebody teach for me that I don’t know has a lot of experience,” says Heizman. “We’re very hands on with the clients we have and 90 percent of the classes we have are taught by myself and one other instructor.”

On the very near horizon for Reform Your Core is moving to a larger space, which Heizman is very excited about. “It’s a beautiful loft space in West Chester on the corner of Cincinnati Dayton Rd. and West Chester Rd.—a building rehabbed by Sozo HAIR that has a lot of character and feels very urban,” she says. “We’re growing by leaps and bounds, so it’s hard to say where we’re going to be in five years.”

To learn more about Reform Your Core, visit www.reformyourcore.com or call (513) 831-2600.

Want a Hollywood smile without the celebrity price tag? Learn about West Chester’s Maui Whitening and their unique process that’s effective yet affordable.

Samantha Tino, Owner of Maui Whitening in West Chester
Samantha Tino, Owner of Maui Whitening in West Chester

While a dentist’s teeth whitening procedures could cost thousands, the drugstore products could leave lackluster results. That’s where Maui Whitening in West Chester can help. Owner Samatha Tino says that Maui Whitening professional teeth whitening sessions give you prices and results to smile about.

“We use the same-grade equipment and products used in dental offices across the country,” she explains. “We understand that with today’s fast-paced lifestyle, you need a teeth-whitening salon that fits your schedule and is also affordable.”

Maui Whitening accepts walk-in clients and offers mobile whitening sessions. The system used at Maui Whitening is a fast, effective and safe way to a brighter smile. The upside: it can be done in 20 to 60 minutes.

“Each ‘session’ takes just 20 minutes and most clients choose to do between two and three 20-minute sessions to get their teeth the very whitest,” says Tino.

The time and number of sessions you’ll need depends on the shade of your teeth and how bright you want to go. The process involves applying the whitening gel to the teeth, upper and lower arch, positioning the accelerator light on the mouth and giving customers results in 20 minutes.

“There is a three-step process followed at Maui Whitening including a whitening gel that’s strong enough to deliver the results [clients] want without making the experience unenjoyable,” explains Tino. “We use the most advanced and effective technology on the market. Our lights are the most powerful and effective lights made specifically for teeth whitening.”

According to Tino, white teeth are associated with health and beauty, and having a white smile also boosts your confidence. That’s why, Tino says, Maui Whitening provides affordable teeth whitening treatments at such an affordable cost. “Plus, it also helps to make us more cautious of what we’re putting into our bodies and do for ourselves,” she adds.

A 20-minute session costs $99 while you can purchase a 40-minute session for $149. The most popular session that Tino says renders the best results is 60 minutes and costs $179. “Customers who come back within six months of a session are given a special discounted rate so they can continue maintaining a whiter smile at a lower cost,” she adds.

Tino says that they’re exploring the idea of adding other beauty enhancing services to Maui Whitening’s offerings, so watch for updates soon. 020215FASHION

Looking for the unique products and individualized attention you don’t find at the big box stores? Busom Buds, a privately owned woman’s boutique, offers a wide variety of unique inventory to give you a one-of-a-kind shopping experience.

Coming up with the name, “Busom Buds” was a no-brainer for owner Emily Smith. “My mom has always been my best friend, and her nickname for me growing up was ‘Bud’ or ‘Buddy,’” she says. “I was my mom’s buddy and we were always together. The ‘Busom’ part came from my mom’s breast, which was affected by breast cancer.”

1465860_588043451274674_1849746854_o“The way she was treated during her treatment was cruel and no other woman should ever have to be treated like that,” Smith continues. “This is why I decided to open my own store. I wanted to make sure that woman are treated the way they deserve to be treated.”

This endeavor ended up being a perfect fit for Smith and her mother. “My mom went through the cancer, but not alone,” says Smith. “I was right there with her the entire time. Our experience proved that we both can relate to the other women in need.”

Smith went on to start her business in an office space in 2006, later expanding to a storefront in 2008, and then finally moving to their new location in 2012. “I am proud to say that we even have an online store now, which allows us to go worldwide.”

Busom Buds carries bras sizes A28 to 56N, underwire and non-underwire, nursing bras from A-I, post surgical camisoles, mastectomy bras, Nite Sweatz for ladies going through menopause, jewelry, Big Buddha purses and they also specialize in breast cancer prosthesis.

According to Smith, what truly makes Busom Buds unique is that they care about each and every person that walks through the door. “All the products we carry are also very unique, such as Spanx, Poo-Pourri, Sonoma Lavender, WubbaNub, Foxers and several more,” she says. “Our story is simple. We are different and actually care about our customers.”

As for Smith’s goals for the boutique, it’s all about getting her name out there so she can continue educating women. “Since 90 percent of women are currently in the wrong bra size, I would ultimately like to reduce that by 50 percent within the year,” says Smith. “I would also like to educate women and let them know that we’re not just a breast-cancer store, but that we also handle every day needs for ladies.”

Smith hopes to someday launch a new store in another state, listing Florida, Texas or Arizona as potential possibilities. Until then, she plans on continuing to hold events at the boutique as a way to create awareness and inform women
